Hello I'm Jan
An older member. glad to have found this forum.
Back in my day (when dinosaurs roamed) Dyspraxia wasn't heard of, even my nice parents were embarrassed by by clumsyness.

Teachers declared me lazy and stupid, I genuinely thought I wasn't trying enough, and doomed to failure being unable to skip, catch a ball, ride a bike and play hockey - the latter from a teacher.
Despite this I surprised both schools by passing 11plus and getting 5 O levels, all arts and language based.
It wasn't until I was being assessed for a business course that the guy in charge recognised my dyspraxia, it turned out his son was the same.

It was such a relief to learn about dyspraxia, even finding out that we get more tired because of extra effort needed for everyday tasks.

Great to read all your stories, and finally....
I failed to register here 5 times and managed to lose my first post on here...twice - been a bit stressed, makes my dyspraxia worse :D :D :D :D

Hi Jan and Everyone

I have just found this site and joined.

Like you, Jan, I date back to the time of the dinosaurs when dyspraxia hadn't been heard of. I was the kid in school whose work always got a red line through it and the comment 'untidy work'. I just couldn't write tidily but no one understood. I was also called 'butter fingers' because I couldn't catch a ball. My room was - and still is - untidy. I think I don't notice that something is messy, although it looks messy to other people. I also Can't reorder physical objects and get them to look tidy. I've had the experience that I've tried and tried and failed and then a friend walked in an tidied for 10 minutes and everything looked much better.

I'm battling with something that may be a result of dyspraxia... Or am I just losing it?! I constantly mislay things and then either never find them, or they pitch up somewhere totally unexpected. The other side of this is that I sometimes absolutely don't remember what I have done with things. Like I put my keys away 'somewhere safe' when I went away, only to have never remembered the 'safe place' and never found them again. Will have to change my cupboard door locks.

I know forgetfulness can be due to many different causes, but would you say dyspraxia could cause this?

Thanks so much
Penny

Hi Penny

Dyspraxia and more often the associated stress and anxiety that come hand in hand, can cause memory difficulties.

If you're having to contend with / battle other things too, it can all become increasingly difficult to determine if any one thing is more responsible than others.
