Hi

Hi,
I am 22 years old and I was diagnosed with Dyslexia and Mild Dyspraxia when I was studying at university at the age of 21. Looking back i have no clue how no one didnt notice earlier  Despite it being described as mild I feel my dyspraxia affects me more daily than my dyslexia.
Recently become a first time mum to my little girl who is now 5 months old. This change has brought alot of new challenges and fears with the dyspraxia. mainly a massive fear of dropping her or something. If anyone has any tips on managing parenthood alongside dyspraxia they would be appreciated :)

Hi Laura,
I’ve got two kids - not saying I’m a great parent but they’re still alive and honestly that’s sometimes the best benchmark 😂
I’m more than happy to help if I can, though I didn’t find out I dyspraxic until after I had both kids so any answers might be retroactive.

Somethings I would say straight off:
- if you don’t have a baby carrier/sling, they’re worth investing in. I had a Tula carrier which I adored but there’s all sorts. There’s some good Facebook groups which sell used slings and can advise but I can’t remember the names — I think ‘slings and things’ was one. The carrier gave me my hands free and meant I didn’t have to keep track of a pram.
- if you have space, invest in trays. I have one for breakfast things and one for condiments. The condiments sit on the table until after dinner then get swapped straight away for the breakfast stuff when we’ve finished eating, then back again after breakfast. It’s just less mental load than taking cereal orders/getting sauces out each meal
