What kind of music do you all like? Personally, I like pop music and hip-hop. I hate heavy metal, never listened to Metallica, and country music doesn't really appeal to me.
Re: Music
So why do you hate metal? I guess it can sound quite intimidating and if you've been brought up to believe it's evil your view may not be entirely objective. In my experience metal fans are often very accepting of others.
There are many Rock and Metal sub genres covering a wide variation of styles. Many consider that Metallica sold out! I'm a Metal fan and can only grudgingly acknowledge their contribution to metal.

My dislike of metal has nothing to do with religion. It just sounds intimidating to me. I have no doubt that people who like metal are accepting. I had a friend in university who was a heavy metal fan & the friendliest, warmest, most accepting person ever. So I have no problem with people having different musical tastes. Metal just sounds very intimidating to me is all.

Fair point not everyones'ears 'are tuned' the same
I find I'm quite apt to dislike certain things very intensely especially if they take me outside my comfort zone or annoy me as pointless/stupid. Such things are of course subjective.
There was a Room 101t thread not long back so maybe it could be balanced with a 'things we love' thread

Re: Music
Where do I start? The easy answer would be "anything good", but that is less than informative.
I'm a musician myself and play a lot of Scottish traditional music, mainly on bass guitar as part of a dance band. I also sing in Gaelic, which as you might imagine is a small world. My favourite Gaelic singers are people like Julie Fowlis, Kathleen MacInnes and Christine Primrose among others.
I love Bach - the greatest composer who ever lived - and will take no argument on that ;-)
Great bands that have stood the test of time like Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Dr Feelgood etc.
Recently I've become a big fan of Jake Bugg. I'm old enough to be his grandad, but have to admire the originality of his songs whilst at the same time the respect he shows for the likes of Don MacLean, Donovan and numerous other artists from the 70s. He is also a seriously talented guitarist and really knows how to get a crowd going.
Dave Brubeck - a late genius and maybe the father of modern jazz.
I could go on, and on ...

Skyebison, I like the Smiths too.skyebison wrote:I mostly like alternative rock, some punk and hard rock too. I especially like The Smiths, The Strokes, and The Clash.
Re: Music
I like metal black, death, doom to name a few, soundtracks to films, classical, grunge, such as Alice in Chains. I like female vocalists such as Zola Jesus, something a bit different.
I find dance music, country music, rap music, most pop music, not my cup of tea.

Re: Music
I love 90s grunge and alternative bands like Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam. That era seemed to produce so many talented acts and little known gems. I also really enjoy 90s Britpop (Blur, Sleeper etc). It's probably obvious that I was a teenager in the 90s.
I'm also a big hip hop fan. Ice Cube, Nas and Tupac are among my favourites. I also enjoy a bit of soul and Motown.
