Re: Surviving Valentines Day!!
Why does it matter? All it is is just another holiday for companies to make excuses to make as much money of you as possible. I've been with my partner for 4 years and we never bother with it. Our point of view with this is why do we have to do nice things on this day just because some companies say so and everybody else says so? We don't, because we're not sheep who follow what everyone else is doing! I can't stress how much this holiday is really the most overated one of them all. Seriously, I've been single many times during valentines day and once you realise all it is is just a scam, you'll feel less bothered about that day.

Entirely valid rant on commercialism aside, it's a time of year when those of who are still or currently single are reminded more constantly of the fact that we've not got that special someone to share this and other days with.

Re: Surviving Valentines Day!!
exactly how it makes me feel, just rubs it in it seems how dead my love life is at the moment. cant complain the rest of my life is good though.
Re: Surviving Valentines Day!!
Exactly.
As I said last year I don't really care for the commercial / materialistic side of it but society does have a habit of shoving this kind of thing into ones face.
Valentine's along with Xmas, Mothers, Fathers days etc are incredibly well placed to make a singleton feel just that bit more lonely.
I just tire of it really, I just desire to have someone who makes me feel special and whom i can make feel special in the same way.
Valentine's Day really does make you feel unlovable when you've gone through your whole life without ever having had a genuine boyfriend/girlfriend relationship.

yeah i know the feeling, but we've got to keep on trying cant let our disability disable our lives and stop us from living them we way we want to or at last that is what I beleive, I'm giving up and giving into my disability.

Indeed. It is an event that the greetings cards shops get excited over, point taken, and I do think in many ways that it is a load of rubbish, but insecurity is a personal thing where events such as this just reminds us of why we are in this situation. The same with relationship storylines in soap operas as well.Tom fod wrote:Entirely valid rant on commercialism aside, it's a time of year when those of who are still or currently single are reminded more constantly of the fact that we've not got that special someone to share this and other days with.
My mother died a few years ago, but I can survive Mothering Sunday simply because my mother was a different person to myself.
