depression / stress / anxiety

Can depression/ stress/anxiety build up over a long period, so that it makes you "lose it " (say things you do not mean, lose control, snap ) ?

In other words cause a 'breakdown' ?

Well, yes.

Which is why it's important to identify triggers early and work on those coping strategies.

Everyone copes in their own way. Even if you normally bottle it up, it can come to a point where it will spill out and you can end up saying things that you might not have meant or wanted to say.

As Jim says the best way to manage it is to identify triggers and employ coping strategies so that you can lessen the impact on yourself and those around you.

It happens to us all and while you haven't given us the details (we don't expect you to), I hope the people affected will understand you were having an off day and forgive and maybe even help you. Sometimes the more you care, the more difficult it can be to keep a lid on some emotions.
