Sleeping awkwardly

Post by holleee »

Hi guys,

I've recently been diagnosed with dyspraxia, and one of the MANY things i've been thinking about is sleep. Like, I sleep really awkwardly. I can't sleep in a straight line, I have to curl my body up because it eases the pain I get in my back. If i sleep in a straight line then I wake up feeling horribly stiff in my back, and I actually feel quite ill. I wake up in many odd positions.

Is this a thing with dyspraxia, or am I just being a bit of a weirdo?

Thanks in advance!

It might have some small bearing on it, as it's unlikely to help much but I suspect that there's some other muscluar skeletal issue underlying it all.

Perhaps a trip to the doctors or physio?

Hello. Has anyone managed to get some help with sleeping if its a muscular disorder? My teenage son is dyspraxic and spends most nights moving around and being unable to settle. He's forever tired and its affecting school / life in general. He's been diagnosed with weak muscles and has to build up his strength, which will take time.. Right now we really need to find a way to to help his body get some rest. Any advice welcome. R.

With respect I think you need to be looking from a wider perspective. Have you discussed how he sees his 'dyspraxic self'' Being 'different at this stage of life is not easy with all the various changes, peer pressure etc, etc

I think you need to speak to his doctors as Dyspraxia is more than weak muscles alone. Often our minds are still whirring away and we need a way to put our thought processes to bed too in order that we can rest.
