Hard to find a job suitable for me . . advice?

Post by TSDREX »

Hello,
Im not very confident Person since growing up getting Bullied etc because Dyspraxia, and im very slim for my age (20) and can't do much heavy lifting.

And i might fail University (Since i don't really like going but only choice i've got to pay rent at the moment.)
I know i might get negative feedback, But is there any other choices out there for me?
I can't really work in a shop, no good working with other people.

If only there was a way to work at home where i can stay away from crowed people,
i use this site called swagbucks and earn amazon vouchers but it isn't real money to pay rent..

any advice would help a lot
Thanks,T

Hi Tom
Welcome back (I see you've been a member a while).

We' need to know a bit more first if we want to tell you anything potentially useful.

What jobs have you tried/ what experience do you have? What wd interest you and what wouldn't?
Where are you and what if anything is available where you are?
How many hours have you realistically got and how much do you need to earn in order to pay your ren and other bills?

Thank you for replying Tom Means a lot.

Well soon as i left school i went to college for 3 years and now im at Uni so i never tried having a job. And i need around £200 a month to pay my mom keep money. Only experience i have worked with animals and took media GCE in school. Im also learning how to create Animation/creating 3D models at home. Plus i've been creating electronic music since nearly 5 years and with 1, 141 followers i don't know how to sell my music. Would like to be something about Computers as i don't like working with other people if i did i'd get nervous and lose the job.

Oh yeah i can work anytime, im always free i would even do a night job i don't mind

Don't really want to go on Job Centre as the government making it more hard for everyone.

Thanks
Tom

Tom

I can appreciate you've had bad experiences with bullying but fortunately most people do grow up and you have to forebear a few idiots to appreciate the better/really great people. It can be/is a dog eat dog world and we can't really change that sadly. I'm not saying there is not any work with minimal real world engagement with other people but I think you have to force yourself to step outside your comfort zone.

Are you looking for work to run alongside your full time education weekends/evenings and outside term time or are you expecting to finish/be finished at university in the near future? Have you spoken to your tutor/student support services about your concerns or sought out information/assistance with regard to finding employment post university? What are you studying?

I imagine that in the creative industry there is a requirement to be able to sell/promote your product through face to face networking and meetings, as well as online in the virtual world. Have you completed any internships during your course? Again you will probably need to bite the bullet and learn to deal with interviews and the like.

I never found the job centres that good when I was looking for work back in the early-mid and late 90s, I guess it did at least give me the drive/impetus to find a job and get off the dole but it was a struggle. However, it can only increase your chances or allow you to find out about/give you access to further training opportunities/assistance.

Another thing you might perhaps look at are are their any projects/programmes run by organisations like the Prince's Trust. Again you'll no doubt need to approach/meet people and convince them you're worth giving a place to.

Sorry this is not an easy answer, maybe some of the other board members might have some other ideas for you too.

hey man, I agree with what alot of what Tom says, but I can help you with one aspect, wee bit about me, I am a Uni student, I am also a volunteer Youth Worker in a music project. My role as my instrument isnt really like by rock bands is getting people out their, getting heard, getting the userbase you need to make money from your music passion, and one that is really helpful and getting recognized. I also do promo pics, recording and music video creation.

If you interested and same goes for anyone really, send me a link to youtube page, myspace page etc and I can tell you professionally what will help. And all I ask is remember me when your big and famous.

Im never used doing stuff for myself, When i do im very clumsly And people tend to just stare at me.
I guess i have to exit my Confidence zone, Uni is lot different than college all people from different countries/around U.K goes to University and i panic doing particle work i do not know why.

Hopefully i can re-take my Year at University as part time, i got 3 years at University and this is my first year. I'd only have a job if i can't go back to University and i am studying Music Tec (Where you learn about science how Sound works, Modules i had Live Sound, Studio Tracking, Studio Mixing, Music academics)

People Judge you if your on the Job Center, and its lot harder finding a job these days.

Yet Again,
Thanks for replying.

Hey man,
Yeah you get more views when you make a music video and so on, don't have money to hire big promotion companies or im not singed to any record lable.

Im trying learn how to create Animation for music videos but it won't happen any time soon.

If i could i'd work on music every day and earn a living from it, Then i can be in my own space.
