Keyboards

Post by catwoman »

Does anyone else have problems with key boards. I am now on my third keyboard. I type very loudly and the letters I use the most wear off, which dosent help with the dyslexic overlap. I dosent matter if its a cheap keyboard or not in fact a dearer one only lasted 6 months.
Can anyone reccomend a dyspraxic proof keyboard or are the letters deliberatly desined to wear out so people will keep buying them?

I type very noisly as well (At GCSE level one of the other students threatened to throw my laptop out of the window if they key noises kept distracting him from his work) though I have had one keyboard for four years and it still works. I don't know if that's because I'm not as violent a typist or because it's a good one. Lesee...it appears to be a Hi-Grade "Corded Delux Access Keyboard"

I guess I was bought this computer by my university because I'm dyspraxic and the disabilities liason officer chose the specifications so it would make sense if this is a good one. Or maybe it's just chance. Who knows?

Presumably whoever makes corded delux access keyboards for hi-tech.

I thought I was the only one with this problem! I wore out the G and H keys, and backspace, on my laptop and needed a new keyboard inserted each time. I've been using a bog standered external keyboard...cost about $15 Aussie Dollars, and its been fine. I don't like the new fangled keyboards, for some reason they just don't respond well enough, they're too ' squidgy' I guess the word is!

I think you need to shop around...ask if there is a display model you can just ' test type' so you get the right response and then ask about durability. My new laptop is a Macbook and apparently all the keys are seperated and individual so if I wear one out I can just have one key replaced rather than the whole shebang!

Take Care

I type very noisily, but as I touch type (in my own style) the wearing off of keys doesn't bother me.

Same here. On my current laptop I have no WERTYIOASDHLCN and the UFG are almost gone.

I think my next laptop will be a macbook pro. in those, the keys aren't printed on, but they're holes in for light to show through when its dark! So you can't wear them off.

The only downside is that its waaaaay off my price range: I could afford this one because it was an ex-display model in John Lewis. Uni people would insist on me getting a windows pc, and I know the majority of keyboard shortcuts for the mac because I've had one since the age of 9. It'll take too long to switch back really: I can just about cope with exams because all i use are the main letters - no ctrl, or suchlike!

Hmm, My keyboard problems all seem to revolve around spilling fluids (ooer, I mean beer and the like ;) ) on them. I've trashed two that way so far, One of them was the laptop's standard one, which resulted in the full stop key jamming, so I had to physically remove it, and have yet to replace.
