Food Textures

Post by LGC2108 »

Does anyone else have difficulty with the texture of different foods. When I was younger I often used to choke on the texture of apples and pears. I still find eating very difficult and stressful, usually choosing to eat food with a soft texture.

I know I'm quite picky about texture of food - never been sure if it's a dyspraxia thing but I can see how it would relate to the sensory processing issues :) Personally, I cannot stand tomatoes unless they're cooked and pulverised. Never used to eat mushrooms because they were 'squeaky' though I've found I like them now, might be that I cook them differently or my tastes changed which I believe happens to everyone.
Oh, and a lot of the time I don't like cold food. I know it's not a texture, but it's sort of related maybe?

I've always had difficulty with the texture of mushrooms as well. I think I particularly have problems with foods that have a mixture of soft and hard textures. I also have an overbite, which means I need to eat food using the side of my mouth rather than the front, which probably causes problems as well.

Oddly enough I can't stand mushrooms or tomatoes either! I was talking about this the other day. Any food I don't like is probably down to the texture of it. I never thought that it might be a dyspraxic thing, but it makes sense now I think about it...

I'm fairly fussy with food textures too, I'm fine with mushrooms and tomatoes but I generally don't like certain foods if they are either soggy or pureed. :P I don't put milk in my cereal as it's just too much of a soggy texture for me to eat. I rather drink my milk separately in a glass, which so many people think is really odd. :D What im the worst at though is the temperature of food, I like to have my cooked food absolutely piping hot, straight from the sizzler even better. If tepid I'd refuse to eat it and will heat it until it's really too hot. I rarely blow my food too because I eat it boiling. Sounds crazy :p
