Dyspraxic young woman having problems finding a friend

Post by WarriorOfEden »

Hello everyone. My name is Taylor, I am 18yrs old with Autism and Aquired Dyspraxia. The reason why I am posting this becasue I cannot make ANY friends at college or in my neighbourhood.
I never had a friend before...all my life, I have been lonely. No one in school understood me. I get confused easily, I can get fustrated easily and with no experience in socializing, it is very hard for me! ](*,) :*(

I can, however, make friends online but I want a friend outside the web. Is there anyone willing to be friends with me?
Please, I am so lonely, I am undergoing a lot of stress because of it.
I do not care where you come from or who it is, I just want a friend for the first time in my life!

Hello, welcome to the forum.

I think that many of us here could sympathise with you, I myself am very socially (if not awkrard) then shy. Difficulties I have with crowds and noise puts me off socialising. It's very difficult to make friends when you don't go out and as a result I have very few friends, the nearest of them actualy being in Malta. So it's a bit long distance!

It is a loney existence, and it can get depressing at times and I can relate to the desire to simply have a friend to see in real life.

However, a note of caution. You are in a very vulernable position here. Your desire to make a friend, almost any friend from anywhere risks you being taken advantage of, exploited or abused. There's a lot of nasty people lurking around the internet looking for vulnerable people to prey on.

The age difference between you and me for example would already raise awkward questions immediately, you being just 18, I'm into my 30s. Many of us here are well into adulthood. And the practicalities of making a "real" friend from here are ultimately quite slim.

I'm sure you'll be very welcome here, we'll all be happy to answer any questions you might have on the forum, maybe you could even find a Facebook friend here but perhaps you'd be better seeking further friendship at a dyspraxic teens website. http://www.dyspraxicteens.org.uk/forum/ where there's more chance of finding people of your own generation with more in common aside from the dyspraxia.

Hi Taylor

I don't believe this and the Dyspraxic Teens Sites are connected.

Have you checked your junk mail folder, the activation email may have gone there. If you use webmail (sych as hotmail, Gmail etc) you may need to login directly to find it, as it might not have been delivered to your email program.

If that turns up nothing wait while then try again. I think it unlikely you entered your email wrong twice?

Sorry I can't help any more than that but hopefully It's been incorrectly categorised as junk mail.

Their FAQ says
I registered but cannot login!
. . . . . Some boards will also require new registrations to be activated, either by yourself or by an administrator before you can logon; this information was present during registration. If you were sent an e-mail, follow the instructions. If you did not receive an e-mail, you may have provided an incorrect e-mail address or the e-mail may have been picked up by a spam filer. If you are sure the e-mail address you provided is correct, try contacting an administrator.

Hello

I cannot get in the Dyspraxic teens forums as I have tried everything and it will not let me in....I have 2 Gmail accounts and a AOL account plus a Offic365 account (that is for college however I don't know how to get into it)
Can I just stay here? I can make friends with anyone, I don't care how old! I am so lonely.... :*( :*(

I have tried all of my email addresses, I just don't know what to do now....
Thanks for replying!

Of course you can stay here, no one here would dream of telling you to go :)

The teen site was just a suggestion to facilitate your finding friends more of your generation.

Taylor

As Jim says, there's absolutely no problem with you remaining here at all. You are 18 after all.

It may be the Dyspraxic Teens site has a system whereby one of their moderators has to look at your request to join first, or there may be some glitch that needs to be fixed there first. You may hear back from them yet. However, you're just as welcome here and hopefully you'll find someone of around your own age and near to where you are.

I'm sure you are, but always be mindful of how much personal info you give out in any private messages. Be sure someone knows where you'll be if you arrange to meet someone and don't neglect your personal safety in all the excitement of arranging to meet someone in person.

If you're ever worried or concerned be sure to tell someone you trust.

Hi WarriorOfEden,

my name is faye, i'm 19 years old, and i myself and incredibly shy and awkward around people i don't know. put me in a room full of people whom my friends know, but i don't, and that's hell for me. i was also home taught so you can imagine how little socialisation there was, :p
anyway, just wanted to say, i know what you mean, and if you ever wanna chat about anything, just let me know.
lots of love,
faye. xxxxxxxxxx

Hi Taylor - welcome to the forum
Although dyspraxic teens may be more suitable I am sure you will be fine on hear we are a good group of people all with different experience and story's to tell.

From my experience making friends, close relationships etc is not something you can just ask for its more something that happens over time and through having shared views, interests, things to talk about, enjoying each others company.
Having got onto the forum is a grate start, get involved in conversations on hear and let things take time don't let yourself be in a unsafe situation - e.g. agreeing to meet someone who says sure I will be your friend :D want to meet me hear at this time. But you don't know them.
