Clumsy and untidy?

Post by Dislikeofsocks »

Hello everyone,

I hope you don't mind me saying hi. I haven't got a diagnosis, but the more I read I am convinced I have most of the dyspraxic traits (with the exception of handwriting issues). So maybe I am not just very forgetful and clumsy?!
I am 28, live in Berkshire. The biggest hurdle I am finding is learning to drive (and how much I hate buses!). Driver
I also struggle learning new tasks at work, especially with verbal instructions.

I am looking for any advice on how to get assessed, I hear GPs/NHS are not easy to convince. ](*,)
Has anyone had success being referred through Occupational Health at work?

Has anyone had much useful support since getting an adult diagnosis?

Looking forward to getting to know you :ghug:

Hello and welcome to the forum! :)

Since my diagnosis I haven't had much support to be honest - just got to get on with things best as I can really! I'm sorry I'm no good at making suggestions for others what's best to do for you!

Do you really dislike socks? :o
Hopefully not making too many moot points... heh... *ahem* :D

Absolutely no one is easy to convince.

Dyspraxia doesn't seem to be widely known about, and even less widely understood. I was diagnosed as child, spent some years with "special needs" support at school before they decided they wanted to the put the money elsewhere. Support as an adult? Pffft what support?

The clumsy reference can also be quite damaging, or at the very least dismissively demeaning because another term for Dyspraxia was "clumsy child syndrome" and ignorant people can't see past "clumsy" can't see the problem and put things down to laziness.
