Hello.
I stumbled upon information on Dyspraxia today and I'm certain I have it. I had never heard about it before and have always been a bit 'odd'. Now I know about it I see so many of the symptoms in myself and feel both scared and relieved.
I asked my family about things I wasn't sure about and my certainty that I have it grew. I sometimes get told that I walk funny so I asked my OH and he told me I walk like a penguin - He's said this before which is why I asked him. I asked him how often he thinks I walk like that and he said all the time. I was quite taken aback by this so I asked if I look okay when I run and my whole family burst out laughing and said I look like 'a spaz' when I run. I just sat there in shock and asked why to which I was told my arms 'start flapping everywhere'.
There are so many symptoms I have but what my family have said to me today was a real eye-opener and I was rather upset by it.
My family aren't cruel - they were just genuinely shocked I wasn't aware of the way I appear to people and since then I have sat and talked to my OH and I'm going to go to the doctor and talk about it.
I'm so glad I've found this forum because I need to talk about this x

Hi there
I really don't think that people and society in general appreciate just how hurtful their names and terms for things that don't look quite right are.
Spastic and Spaz sound so horribly derogative.
People with neurological difficulties can't exactly help the way they are either, it's not like we go out of our ways to appear ridiculous. So when people level names at us like that it is cruelly upsetting.
To this day, whenever I hear the words spastic or spaz mentioned, whether they are directed at me or not I get the urge to punch the ignorant person who said it right in their nose.
