Hello people!

Post by Lucky Star »

Hey there! Call me Lucky for finding a place where people make sense! I'm pretty sure you're all Stars.

Allow me to tell you a little more about myself. I'm eighteen years old, so that legally makes me an adult. But I'm really just a big kid. I live in the United Kingdom in Lancashire. I am a female brony, or pegasister if you prefer. I love animals. In fact, I took a course in animal management at Myerscough College. Though one of the tutors picked on me and the other tutors just got mad at me because I struggled to remember deadlines for assignments. Too many at once will always equal forgetting something. I have three guinea pigs, a rabbit and a jack russell terrier who keep me occupied. I still live with my dad, but I really want to move out and live my own life.

Okay... So now for the reason why I joined this forum. All of my life I've known that I'm somewhat different to the other people of my age group. In year five in Primary school on sports day, my teacher treated me in the same way he did with the disabled boy in the class. He gave us both a head start during the race. In secondary school I was bullied to death for being useless at PE. In fact, I was the only girl there who couldn't catch a ball. One teacher pulled me away from the rest of the class just to make me practice catching a ball. Still can't catch now. By my last year of secondary school I refused to go to PE. Instead I sat in the student support room away from the embarrassment of being seen as useless. Then in college, I continually got picked on by one tutor. At first she got mad at me because for three weeks straight I kept on getting lost, which resulted in me being late for lessons. Then in practicals she picked on me because I struggled using a sweeping brush. On top of that I really struggled keeping on top of my assignments. So in the end none of the tutors liked me.

So, I went to my GP and explained what's been going on with me. and he sent me to see a neurologist. The neurologist mentioned the slight possibility of dyspraxia and told me it's genetic and that if it is dyspraxia then I've had it since birth. Then he sent me for an MRI scan of my brain and I've had to go for three blood tests in one month. Now I've been told to wait to hear from either the doctors or the hospital. I've been left in the dark because they're trying to test me for everything and won't tell me anything until they have the results of all of the tests. So I just wanted to be around people who understand me. Because I feel like I'm an alien on this planet right now...

You will be OK, dyspraxia is only as bad as you allow it to be. Play to your strengths not your weaknesses. I am dyspraxic. My eldest daughter is dyspraxic. She also did an animal care course then went on to do a level 3 uniformed services course.

A diagnosis cannot always be helpful but at least it might force them to stop discriminating against you.

A diagnosis will be useful because it gives you an answer and a basis to help develop your coping mechanisms a bit more effectively.

But it won't necessarily make things "better" largely because an ignorant person is going to be ignorant irregardless of person's diagnosis and there is very little we can do to change that.

However, you are young and hopefully as you get a bit older you'll find that other people who may have bullied you before (even if only indirectly) will grow up a bit. I have found that people are often maturer and more tolerant once they've got past their teens and early 20's.

And remember, whilst you might not be Ms Athletic on the school sports field you will have a talent somewhere within you which exceeds those who are little school athletes. It's just about finding it and it looks like you've found yours already. :)

Thanks for the kind words. All I ever wanted was to speak with understanding people such as yourselves. I wouldn't call animals my strength. But people tell me I can draw and I'm making stop motion animations as a hobby. I hope you don't think I'm a depressing person. I'm not trying to be. I just get fed up with life sometimes.

Hi and welcome to the forums (or fora)

Other people can be hell and you seem unlucky enough to have met quite a few. You and we're all patient caring people here so we often find it very difficult to deal with people who are not and just seem to want to criticise everything we try to do and don't have the patience to let us find our way and accept our different ways of doing things as being equally valid. We're in many cases perfectly capable of criticising ourselves harshly so really don't need other people rudely pointing out our weaknesses. We're far from stupid.

We just have to grin and bear it and not be put off by such people. Sadly it isn't always easy as there is no shortage of these type of people. However there are just as many nice kind and caring decent people who are willing to give you time and accept you for who you are.

all the best

Welcome, Lucky!

I've heard of Bronies but not 'Pegasister' before!

Eurgh, P.E./Games at school... nasty, nasty times. You'll do well to forget or at least move on from such experiences best you can.

I'd say it does sound like dyspraxia; please don't let it become a big negative in your life.:)

Did somebody day 'irregardless'? :o *Shakes head*
Hopefully not making too many moot points... heh... *ahem* :D
