Helloooo !

Post by snowqueen65 »

Greetings :)

I'm 48, female, not diagnosed but mildly dyspraxic. Married to fairly patient dyslexic, mother of 2 dyspraxic teenage boys.

When my youngest son was 4, his teacher said "We think he has dyspraxic tendencies". I replied "Really ? I thought he was just an airhead like me". So, I looked up dyspraxia and the long list of symptoms and decided that me, my brother, my father and both my sons all have dyspraxic tendencies. Yay us :D

My particular issues are with :

Multi-tasking (Manager says "Women are supposed to be good at multi-tasking" Me "I'm the exception that proves the rule then")
Sequencing
Speaking concisely
Planning
Organisation
Time keeping
Housework
Spatial ability
Hand-eye co-ordination

I can get very frustrated and down when I make mistakes, even if 99% of what I did was successful that day.
I am quite empathic, used to be a nurse, now work in customer services. I don't handle criticism well though as I'm easily hurt.

Came to this forum today, how I missed it before I don't know. It's such a helpful idea =D> So many things I relate to and hopefully can feel less self-conscious about in future. For me, when systems change at work and you have to find new ways of doing things...so stressful. Now I understand better why my poor brain struggles to cope. How brave and clever people are to be achieving everything they manage to do, when people generally don't appreciate how flipping hard it can be ](*,)

I hope I can make some useful contributions but mostly just wanted to thank pooky and mods and admins :ghug:
I have made small donation and hope other people will too :)
Sorry for long post and will try to keep them shorter :!:

You've hit the nail so slap bang in the centre there that's it's gone clean through the wood! People don't appreciate how hard it is, mostly because it's difficult to see things from our perspective. So naturally they'll lack insight.

The thing is, if someone has never found something difficult and it has always come naturally to them then they will always have taken it for granted. They have no way of understanding how it could be hard for someone else.

That's the brilliant thing about this forum, people here know what's like.

Welcome to the forum, Snowqueen! I'm glad you've been able to discover dyspraxia as the reason for how you are. :)
Hopefully not making too many moot points... heh... *ahem* :D
