I do a fair bit of walking as it's something I really enjoy. Handy since my poorish vision means I can't drive. I couldn't do running I'd fall over! I also go swimming when I can.

I do play non-competitive badminton with friends and think I have improved my coordination a little but I'm not relly able to run about and manage to hit the shuttlecock as it comes towards me.

The most important thing is to find something you feel comfortable doing and set yourself realistic goals.

With a foot full of bullets I tried to run faster but I just hobbled on to the next disaster.

Yeah I'm a big fan of walking good cardio and helps build up the leg and hip muscles.
Might need to find something else for upper body though as Jeb suggests swimming is probably about the best low impact all over workout.

Due to my nerve difficulties in my neck and shoulder walking is about the only physical activity I do at the moment.

Luckily I have some wonderful countryside on my doorstep.. so I regularly for for walks of between 5-10 miles each time. Up and down hillsides as well.

I'm trying to work on my stamina to get myself out for a days hike of 20-25 miles. On this walk I take in Dunstable Downs, Whipsnade, Ashridge, Ivinghoe Beacons, Eddlesborugh, Totternhoe (including an old hill fort) and back across the fields to Dunstable. I use part of the Chiltern ridge way which is part of an ancient route called Icknield way which crosses the Roman Watling Street in Dunstable.

I enjoy walking as well. Not that I have much time for it now I have children, it'll be good to take them out when they're a bit older though.

In terms of strengthening muscles etc, I found going to a gym and using all the upper body stuff there really helpful. The employer I had at the time included membership of a local gym in the benefits, not something I've seen before or since but was really appreciated and well used by me at the time. I got a lot less back pain and had better posture over the couple of years or so that I was going. I just don't have the time to go very often these days, and as a result can't really justify the expense of joining one at my own expense.
