Is speech and language therapy a former umist course from when it merged with manchester uni?

I think I met a girl on the first year of that course from carlisle.

It's always been at Manchester Uni. I can't think whether we have anybody on our course from Carlisle or not.

hi Nicky, I have not properly looked into placements yet, however, I have started to look at voluntary work and have an appl;ication for the autistic association, and i am looking into other organisations. I have a friend studying pyschology at Plymouth who has taken a year off to do a placement, but i'm not sure in what area of psychology he is doing his placement in.

speech and language therapy sounds absolutely fascinating especially as i suffer from verbal dyspraxia and sometimes find my ability to form words strangely affected. What interested you in speech and language therapy?

Nah, she was a first year down in the old UMIST halls thats all. To be fair, I don't know anythign else about her and I doubt i'll see her agin

hey nikki, sound like you have digraphia, which is what I have. if you have a high verbal IQ (common in dyspraxia) then it is unlikely that you have dyslexic deficit. Dyslexia is related to dyspraxia, and a variety of other conditions like disgraphia and adhd and aspergers. Disgraphia is a planning defict where its difficult to sequence things correctly, like the order in which to write letters correctly or spelling. I makes it particularly hard to take notes while doing something else as that involves copying info and the disgraphia will make it difficult to sequence that info correctly at a fast rate. What kind of assesment did you have? your allowed to go back and ask for another, more detailed one,uni are obligated to pay as well as make any reasonable adjustments you need because of these conditions. there is a very high cross over of these conditons, maybe if you read up or research on the interenet you might recognise more that you fit into. Good luck, speach therapy sounds facinating. I haven't read the answers to your posts so I apoliguise if this is repeating what others have said. Hope it helps though.

Thanks, I may well do that. I did ask for further investigation and they said they'd get back to me but nevcer did! I find asking really daunting at times, my own fault!
