Fiddling things

Post by calumfsinclair »

I've used for many years elastic bands for fiddling with, but I've had enough of pinging myself and others with them. I've seen things called tangles which look quite food, does anone have any good subtle things they fiddle with?

Bubble wrap I think has got to be the most common joy!! me and my brother would always pop it, as it would drive my father nuts!!

YES YES a topic about fiddling, the amount of times i have been told not to fiddle as it annoys people its grate to achulie talk about it

I have found pens good but also annoying to others at the same time, stress balls are another good one but the best item I got (from a dyspraxicia event none less) is this http://www.reachouteducational.com/puff ... -151-p.asp or http://www.reachouteducational.com/noodle-ball-23-p.asp

I got my tangle in the end, it hasn't left my side since. The best £2.50 I've ever spent! I used a stress ball for a while, but my chemistry teacher confiscated it since 'I shouldve been working'!! But since getting a tangle people tend not to ask questions since they know it's there to help me. But people still don't get why I'm so protective over it, "it's only a bit of plastic after all". My bit of plastic!!

I complusively pick my nails and the skin around them. Always there and you can't forget to take them with you when you go out. Not that I'd recommend it as an option though, I often have sore and bleeding fingers!

I bite my nails and the skin too, ends up bleeding quite a bit. I normally use a pen, or bounce my leg up and down if Im sitting. I also flex my fingers I'm walking. The list is pretty endless!!

I fiddle with pens, and I do occasionally bite my nails and pick the skin around them (picking my nails and skin is a habit I've had since primary school).

The dyslexia shop sells a range of things but I also love my zebra pen(Rymans) which is incidently chew proof as I have a tendency to eat pens (not delibrately though). There is a neurological basis for chewing and fiddling it helps to raise arousal levels by engaging the tactile and proprioceptive(body position senses) when they have gone to sleep which I think is quite often for most dyspraxic people well definitely its true for me!
