Hi. I'm Jen and I was diagnosed with dyspraxia and asperger's only yesterday. I just want to speak to other people who have been in my situation and see how y'all have reacted.
I'm not really sure how to feel yet. I keep crying yet part of me is relieved that I have reasons behind my 'madness'
So any thoughts, opinions and advice would be greatly received!

Re: Diagnosed Yesterday!
Welcome to the club! I have dyspraxia and numbers dyslexia. I was diagnosed 3 years ago (I'm in my late 40,s...) I was sad when I was diagnosed as, if I'd been diagnosed at school, I'd have received suport. But I was also relieved as it explained so many things.
Re: Diagnosed Yesterday!
Hi forever_mars and welcome to the forum! I agree with Catwoman that it would have been better if we had been diagnosed at school, as we might have received support back then- however, although I would rather not have any kind of neurological condition, I think it's better to know about it than not. I'm wondering what kind of assessment you undertook? Was it the WAIS (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale)? I took the WAIS and was diagnosed with dyspraxia, but not asperger syndrome. What made the person assessing you decide that you had both?
Re: Diagnosed Yesterday!
I knew that I had dyspraxia , in 2002. The N.H.S never give any support for dyspraxia. The information on adult dyspraxia was non-existant.
Some people thought I might have aspergers syndrome. I have a non-standard-diagnosis of aspergers traits in early 2004, without any support.
I thought it would help me to access services, but the situation is very complicated.
I learned about adult dyspraxia, realised my problems were dyspraxic and I only have borderline aspergers.
I obtained a diagnosis, privately which was cheap, the people did not listen to everything I said, but the information on dyspraxia was very good.
I am angry and frustrated, adult dyspraxia is only slightly better discussed than before.
The government, does nothing to help. The Dyspraxia Foundation do far too little and far too slowly.
A lot of people are slipping through the net, 10% of the population have dyspraxia.
My dyspraxia has caused me a history of problems.
I have allergies, asthma, stress, anxiety, depression.
There should have been clear information in the mid to late 1990s.
What use is a diagnosis of dyspraxia in the 30s, hardly any use ?
Everthing is very strongly biased towards the parents of children.
Charities just seem to treat people comparable to experimental data.
A lot of people with dyspraxia appear to have aspergers traits. Dyspraxia causes problems with social skills and communication skills.
The National Autistic Society seem to say a person has classic aspergers traits or autism, or they have no ASD because they base their experience on the parents of children.
Dyspraxia, dyslexia, AD(H)D, ASD(aspergers) are all related.
My problems as a child were dyspraxic, my mother has never said that I have problems talking to children as a child, the same as other dyspraxics who have aspergers traits.
By meeting dyspraxics, discussing dyspraxia we can make society appreciate the problems dyspraxics face !!

Re: Diagnosed Yesterday!
Hi Jen,
I found out I'm dyspraxic about a year ago (I'm 55) and my main feeling was that of relief! I wasn't mad at all (well not much!). It explained so much about my childhood and now I like my self a lot better than I did. I found this forum was the best place to go for info and sometimes just to read others stories, you realise you're not alone.
