Dyspraxia and Blood Transfusion/Pregnancy

Post by minniemoo »

About six months ago I had my daughter and after a catalogue of disasters at the hospital ended up having surgery and losing 4 pints of blood. Since then I have found that some of aspects of my dyspraxia have got a lot worse - especially my ability to say/write what I am thinking and comprehend fast speech. I also seem a lot less able to compensate for my other problems as well as I used to be able to before having her. I am not sure if it is related to the pregnancy or the blood loss. I didn't notice any real change in abilities when pregnant, but there is a huge difference now. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Is there anything I can do?
Thank you.

Have you considerd that you might just be a bit fatigued? Dyspraxia feels worse when your're tired and I imagine looking after young children is rather tiring.

Hiya Jim

Thanks for the response. Yep, it does get worse when tired, and I am exhausted. But this seems to be even beyond the levels I've known it go before. Guess it's something I just got to get used to :(

Wow, I didn't know that!

I don't feel so bad about never having donated before now then.

I've given blood many times and I don't remember it being a reason given on the long list as to why you houldn't give blood...

Hmm possibly a case of the clinic not knowing what Dyspraxia is. I recently told my GP about it and I got the impression he had never heard of it.

Have you had any blood tests of late you could have a iron deficency since you did lose a lot of blood when giving birth although being six months ago you think you would have made up the loss. Their could be many reasons for being very tired so ask your doctor for some blood tests to rule anything out.it could also be tiring for you if your sleep is lacking because of the baby crying and night feeding and when we are tired and have less energy we become more clumsier and off balance so it becomes a vicious circle.

I think joy has got it right there - the issues being described are most lickey not related to dyspraxicia as such but are contrubeting to the dyspraxicia, i too would recomend going to your GP to have a blood test / genral check up and see what your GP says.

How long ago did you give birth - its really demarnding on the body and you could still be recovering from it.

Thank you for your responses :)

I had my baby nearly six months ago now, but was diagnosed with anemia (sp?) before the birth and had iron stuff before and after. I've started taking iron supplements again now in the hope it helps. You've also reminded me that I've not gone for a bloodtest when I'm supposed to have and that I have a follow up appointment very soon, although for the thrombosis I had after the birth - so thank you for reminding me! :)

I guess it is all a bit of a vicious circle and tiredness and stress make everything worse. Hopefully as it gets easier my dyspraxia will go back to the before levels. I just worry that in the operation I lost oxygen supplies and that damaged my neural network even more. I start work again next week and desperately need to be coherent to do so...

thanks again for the support

I cant really help but if you have anemaia then i'd recommended spaton sachets. You can just put them in a drink of orange juice and they dont taste of anything. I think pregnant woman have up to 3 a day. Also maybe a good vitamin c tablet so you absorb iron from your food.

Also is there a possibilty you maybe have post natal depression? As its common thing as far i know
