Does ANYONE forget all the time!!!
My latest thing is to walk out the door without my house keys lol I know this seems usual for even non dyspraxic people. but this happens quite a lot for me, in which my dad has to have another set in case. My daughter says "mum why don't you super glue them to your hand" And my dad gives me that look as to say why do you keep forgetting.
Re: Does ANYONE forget all the time!!!
I'm always paranoid that I'm going to forget my keys, so I have them on one of those chain thingies with a clip on the end, which I fix onto my bag strap and then put the chain into my bag (safely deep inside it so the keys are fairly safe)
Re: Does ANYONE forget all the time!!!
Another reason we have to thank Dyspraxia for its quite common to be forget, and of being so disorganised
Re: Does ANYONE forget all the time!!!
I'm not too bad with everyday things.. For instance I don't tend to forget my keys, wallet, PIN, main passwords etc because it's an everyday thing that has worked itself into my neuro pathways and becomes automatic for me.
But for newer or less frequent things then yes.. I have a lack of cognative memory and struggle sometimes.
If I've been away from work for a holiday, then I've invariably forgotten my intranet password by the time I return (we have to change them every month which doesn't help).
If there is something I've been meaning to do, and set a day for doing it. I'll usually forget to do it
If I have to go somewhere unfamiliar or a place I haven't been for a while then I tend to obsessively investigate maps and transport links to try and minimise the risk of getting utterly lost.
My head works in a very "A to B to C" way, so it pays to methodically work things out before doing them... Because I don't handle unfamiliarity very well.

Oh yes I'm very forgetful.
Re: Does ANYONE forget all the time!!!
I'm worse if there's alot going on but have frontdoor keys scattered far and wide - neighbours friends etc. that way when I do forget there's usually someone around to let me back in....the trick is to remember to give them back the key!!!!!!!

Re: Does ANYONE forget all the time!!!
Well this week I forgot my friend's birthday. It took me ages to find out when it was too. In my defence I thought this was still July...and I thought his birthday was the 14th not the 4th. Had to spend a fortune making it up to him...
Re: Does ANYONE forget all the time!!!
I forget things all the time, and seam to allways be looking for things.
It can really affect me as it can panic me and then I go nuts trying to find it and end up messing everything up trying to find it - ending in a lot of mess and a lot of stress.
It seams as though if somthing is not on me and I put it down then its going to be lost. In the past I have tryed to attach everything on to me using lanyards attached to my trousers but this is not viable for everything (bank card being one of them).
I don't know if anyone else thinks this when somthing is lost but I think that it could be anywhere even when logicily it is only in a select fue places i do think about it logicily but I can't fully trust myself.

Yup yup, one of the definitions of dyspraxia is a nerological impairment of the ability to organise ones thoughts actions and movements, part of this is forgeting stuff.
For me its dates, events and putting names to faces.

Re: Does ANYONE forget all the time!!!
Yep, yep and yep! The most strange one for me is just once I actually managed to forget my own name...
I have a big wooden toy attached to my front door key and obsessively leave it in the same place all the time...it works...mostly
My partner finds my forgetting/misnaming of TV shows the funniest and he tends to adopt the 'new'/descriptive name for them that I come up with - so instead of watching Alphas we watch Alphalfas and Warehouse 13 is Attic 13. He can't get his head around the randomness of dyspraxia and how sometimes you forget one thing but it won't always be the same thing or the same way round...his laughter used to offend me, but now I think it is just that he genuinely finds it funny and in some weird way appealing...

Re: Does ANYONE forget all the time!!!
My good friends which are very few ha call me back to front from the cartoon character, as I always tell information in a messed up way, it still makes sense but people would struggle to understand it, I turn up days early for party s events or days late, i know information as in what happened but the date or the name of people is barely there , so frustrating trying to have a intelligent conservation with someone as to you what your saying ( im saying ) makes perfect sense, but they start to ripp up your words completely or start to spell check you loll
Re: Does ANYONE forget all the time!!!
It is irritating as an adult, but you find ways to adjust. It was absolute hell as a child. One example, when I was about 8 years a teacher asked me to take a message to a certain teacher in a certain room. I managed to get to the room but couldnt remember the message nor the name of the teacher. I could only remember one thing at a time, and only then reliably by repeating it over and over and hoping noone would interrupt me or expect me to do anything else. I much prefer information to be conveyed in writing, then you can neither forget nor lose it.
But being an adult is a dream in comparison. Because you have absorbed most of all of lifes routines into your long term memory, you can work from that, so long as novel experiences arent thrown your way. Because of this I cant tolerate the company of children. They move so fast, so unexpectedly, you dont have time to react. And as an adult in their vicinity you will be held responsible for the stupid things they do!

Re: Does ANYONE forget all the time!!!
I feel like I'm getting worse by the month, memory-wise. So often I walk into a room and can't remember what I needed to get from there, and so on, Then I find that people quite a bit older than me also find that (just by naturally older age lack of sharpness), so I do despair.
Hopefully not making too many moot points... heh... *ahem*

I do this ALL the time I’ve even made special trips to the shops to buy something forgotten what I needed and come home without realising then had to go back again with a list it SOOO annoying isn’t itMoo wrote: So often I walk into a room and can't remember what I needed to get from there
Strangely enough I do seem to have a good memory for other things I’m good at remembering facts figures and stuff I've read ages ago, its odd cos some times I seem to know stuff without even knowing how I know it.
Anyone else get that?
