Hello

Post by Ruth »

Hi guys

It's been a long time since I was here. I'm struggling atthe moment and need a bit of help. I remember how much help and support I found here before ....so just pooping back to say hello and share cos it helps.

i'm 39 now (blimey how did that happen!!) I discovered I was dyspraxic when I went to University in 2004. I'vehad a reasonable handle on it all for a while but right now I'm finding it really hard.

We've recently had a great big extension built and I anticipated finding it difficult but the builders have gone - we have a lovley big space and I feel like I'm drowning! I can't find anything - nothing feelslike mine. I'm totaly freaked and it's spillimng over into everything else - I'm having trouble sleeping. I'm loosing my temper, bursting into tears at the songs on the radio (ALWAYS a bad sign) I just can't seem to get it all back under control.

I'm struggling at work and can't focus or concentrate - I'm supposed to be working now. Moan whinge complain arrghh

Looking for new ways to get a grip on things reminded me to try the old stuff that used to work so here I am. Off the reasons to be cheerful next....

I think I remember you. You were around when Dyspraxic Adults first became available. I used to enjoy reading your posts.

Hi Ruth,
I send you hugs!! I wish I knew something that would make you feel better. Building an extension is like moving house - one of the five most stressful things you can do in your life, so don't be hard on yourself. I've moved quite a few times and also built a house then extended it. I know how you feel. The one thing that helped me was to concentrate on one area and make it mine: bedroom, scrapbook room, kitchen (lol) Once I had one area how I wanted it I went from there, in little steps so I didn't feel overwhelmed. I didn't know I was dyspraxic until recently so I thought I was being OCD!! I just went with what made me feel better and less out of control. Take care of yourslef and try not to stress (I know, easier said than done)

Hi Ruth and welcome back to the forum - I wasent around when you were on but hi and its good that you came back - I hope you can find it as usefull hear now as you did before. :ghug:

Having a extion on the house is a really big deal and its clearly put you under a lot of stress - try your best to relax the best you can and get help from peopl on hear and other frends that may be able to help as well.

Also know that allthough there is this change now it will improve over time as you get used to it but for now try not to let it get too much for you.

hello lovely folks

I'm back from a very theraputic holiday walking up mountains in Cumbria and am feeling alot better.

thanks for all your support! I'm thinking of resorting to lists blue tacked to the walls of each room with the jobs to be done and how long I think it will take me to do it....that way I tick things off the list - a thing I love to do.

I've discovered a talent for gloss work - nice and slow almost Zen like activity . However I appear to have lost the gloss paint!!?? #-o

I think you'll be seeingme for a while - sorry to have been gone so long but thanks for being here now!! :ghug:

Walking in the countery - that sounds good and it one thing that can really help.
The writing things down and having it on the walls really helps me as its there and cant easley be forgotten.

What kind of things are you working on with gloss paint?

HI

Mostly glossing myself it would seem!! getting through roles of masking tape but the window sills and door frames are surrendering one by one!

I've taken the advice and got my bed -room completely sorted out and I've got the contents of my kitchen cupboards written on the outside which seems to help.........maybe I'll start a trend!!!!

Parents coming to stay at the weekend though so will have to hide such obvious signs.......arghhh does anyone know if you ever grow out of worrying about dissapointing your parents!!

sigh!

I don't think anyone grows out of disaspointing there parents - how ever old you are your parents will allwyas have there views.
I would keep the sines (if you mean achulie notices etc) there as it shows to them that you have your ways of copeing - if they dont like it then tough.
