Knowing how perceptive others people are

Post by Vespero »

I have a biiig problem with predicting whether or not someone will be able to understand a reference to something (vaguely) mentioned earlier, or something else perceived as "non-vital information." I talk with my friends, we start on one subject, switch to another and then someone (one particular friend of mine) eventually says something on the first topic. Everyone else acts like they have no idea what he's talking about, even though the related conversation was only minutes ago.

This affects me a lot in my writing because certain connections must be drawn between various areas of the plot for the reader to experience the full effect of the story. But I have no idea if they'll be able to figure things out on their own. Because of this, I tend to be very exact in my writing, but vagueness is a blessing in certain parts and I simply don't know how to be properly vague.

To reiterate my main point: It seems like other people just don't pick up on references to previous events as easily as I do.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

Yeah....it happens to me all the time....and it really pisses me off the way they look at me as if I'm the idiot.

It maybe weird but I have almost perfect recall for some things which can be quite inconvenient when others don't remember or choose to deny what I recall happening!

I guess its down to people being different and our brains remembering different things. We all like and remember things differently we dyspraxic types have nerd like recall for facts and it's something we can be proud of even if it's not always valued by others if we use it at the wrong time and place. When we are being sharp we can be razor sharp 8-).

Lol, thats so funny.

Also why do normal people need to plan things, It's like crossing a river over stepping stones when you could just walk straight over the bridge to get to the other side.

Its beceuse we don't think - we just do, there can be benerfits to this but it realy affects me as it can seam like I dont care about anyone else but myself when that isent true so it can make people turn agensed me.

Its good to know that I am not alone in this and its beceuse I am dyspraxic and I am not the only one not to plan things and just do.

Huh... thats odd. I have the complete opposite problem, when people talk to me they expect me to remember odd details about things they've mentioned and sometimes I zone out and just don't recall things. Its not that I mean to be rude, but I really really have to concentrate on what people are saying to me to understand and remember details. I have a horrendous memory, recently my husband asked me to pass a message on to a neighbour, and I tried to get the message right but I got one or two details wrong. Now my husbands mad at me, though I tried to go back and correct myself, give the right details to the neighbour but sometimes the littlest things are the hardest to fix.... :*(

I can compleatly relate to all of that and having not much of a short term memory.
I take things verry littery and this can really confuse me as I often go on and on about somthing which is clearly annoying the other person (however I don't see that at the time) and I will be told not to say thies questions, stop digging and trying to find things out etc - that all really confuses me.
I would raver be told simply to shut up, don't ask questions etc somthing which is even more simple then prevesloy.

Its verry true - the little things are often the hardest to fix.

Wow I am exactly the same. I bug the cr*p out of my husband when I'm only trying to be nice or helpful. Everyone else can see it but me when I'm bugging someone or doing the wrong thing... so is this because I'm dyspraxic?
Sorry to digress the topic a bit, but I'm only just realizing how being dyspraxic is affecting me through talking about it here... its a real eye opener and I've never had anyone really understand before.
