hello

Post by tornmean9 »

hello my name is peter and i live in leicester im a ripe old age of 25

i was diagnosed with dyspraxia when i was 5 and always struggled with school and growing up but despite having dyspraxia never and still dont know much about it

then since i left if im honest i never gave it much thought and it never affected me or so i thought(mainly because im boring and never go out any where and just play games all times) but recently ive started to take lessons and it has started to hit home more bout it and the more ive read the more i also realies it has affected me one the reasons i dont go out any where is because i get nervious bout everything and always thinking what if

im very bad talking to people i have speech impederment and have low confidence and easly panic bout most things such as if i go on a train im always worrying im not on the right one or ill miss my stop even though it comes up with it going to my destination

i also panic in crowds of people i dont know and get very shy

im not much better in the house when im cooking i often forget to turn the cooker off after using it and have trouble sleeping alot and often drop things like my beer before ive even started drinking it sometimes (which is annoying ) i have poor concentration i cant read a book because after bout 2 minutes my mind start wandering and i loose interest fast i some times even have trouble with games i zone out almost and think bout other things (apart from mass effect games they for some reason always keep me into them for hours on end) but i never put it down to my dyspraxia and i think maybe in some ways try to convince my self it nothing and im being silly

but back to the driving since ive start the lessons im really starting to notice it more then ever i have trouble with space awareness like how far i am from a curb and car infront or next to me and when i drive it always feels like im driving to the right instead of straight even though instructer sure me im not i also have trouble rembering to use clutch all time etc

and today i was thinking despite being diagnosed with it since i was 5 ive never got to meet or talk to other people with dyspraxia and find out how it effects them etc so heres hoping to maybe learn more and maybe get to talk to people more bout and there experiences

and if you not guessed orange is my favourite colour and im rubbish with punctuation and spelling

that me as a adult now but as a kid i also had my fair share of problems with my dyspraxia

as a kid up untill about 12 i would always fall over my own feet and according to my mum had no road sense at all and would always do silly things was and still am a messy eater and still find it some times very hard to cut certain meats and food

i also could never get on with writing and still have very messy writing even with lines i can never write in straight line or at same size also as ive said above my concentration was terrible as a kid and not the best as a adult either and often had trouble making friends and still do i dont know any one round where i live

i always rember one most frustrating things as a kid was never being able to do my buttons up or tie my shoe laces no matter how many times i tried

was never good as listening to instructions and i ended up doing very bad in school i went through 6 diffrent schools and hardly attending lessons

i often had trouble with swalloing certain foods and cant eat food that is to dry which is also all tied in to my speech problem where muscles in my throat dont work properly

and as a kid and teenager also i had weak bones and muscles i often broke my arm or another bone and often had hearing problems requireing multiple gromits in my ears

and that my full story and introduction of me as adult today and a kid (which i wish i still was lol)

Hi Peater and welcome to the forum - I hope you can find it usefull and meet people hear.

Like you I was digignosed quite young (10) and my problems had been notised, however it wasent untill I went to unie and then had to leave (due to dyspraxicia and other mental issues) that I really thought about dyspraxicia and I found out how much it really affects me.
I have axianty issues and it has been verry bad so I understand about panic attacks and axianty etc.
I also have poor handwriting but using a compuer to wright stuff up on really helps - that way others can read what you wright insted of just yourself.

About driving, although i dont drive and dont intend to due to my dyspraxicia and mental difculities i would suggest seeing if you could try using a automatic car - its much more dyspraxic frendly.

Also my favrote colour is orange as well - its cool that you posted it in orange :)
