Dore programme
Hi there
Does anyone know if the Dore programme (www.dore.co.uk) actually works? I'm very, very keen to explore this.

The Dore program is complete tosh. Don't waste your money!!!

Why is the programme complete tosh? Does it not work at all? Have you personal expereience of it?
Re: Dore programme
The dore program claims to be able to 'cure' various conditions such as dyspraxia and dyslexia through physical exercises which help develop specific parts of the brain. These are principally associated with balance and eye tracking, which the program argues is the basis for SpLDs.
The research offered to support these claims has been challenged several times. The methodology used and the reported results have all been criticised for being too selective or vague. No independent review of the literature has ever been made.
Put simply the program, which costs a considerable amount of money, claims that be exercising on such equipment as a wobble board will significantly reduce/get rid of your symptoms. Perhaps it might help your balance, but this can't possibly get rid of working memory deficits, issues with phonological processing etc. etc.
I have no experience of the program myself. Although having worked for a national SpLD charity and speaking with people who have, I am left in no doubt that the program is not what it claims. I believe its claims prey on the fears of parents or adults with an SpLD by offering a cure, which just does not exist.

From your post ishi it seams as though its a bit of a scam - never trust things which are too good to be true - this is one of thoes.
Claming that there is a 'cure' is compleate rubbish - its not true, its just impossable.

Re: Dore programme
Hi Nick. Although I cannot speak for others who have been through the programme, it definitely helped me with my spatial awareness and concentration when driving. Prior to taking part in the programme, I had caused 5 (!) accidents, due to mistakes in judgement and getting distracted. I am also better able to organise my physical space than I was previously. The one thing I am not sure it has helped with though is social skills, but I think it is difficult to undo the damage in this area caused by the bullying I suffered during much of my time at secondary school. Even though the programme probably can't cure everything, it might be worth pursuing depending on what your individual symptoms are (and if you can afford it, of course!)
Re: Dore programme
My son went through a similar proccess to the dore programme in the INPP IN CHESTER .They do a complete neurological assesment and measure how bad your dysfunction is. They put you on a programme of going back in time to working on the primitive reflexes that many dyspraxics have and go through the stages of trying build up your reflexes to a more adult reflexes .They also improve the eye tracking and test for ear dominence you will be given a special tape to listen everday at home to help improve the less dominant ear. My son said it helped a bit but it doesnt fix everything . If you are looking for a miracle cure then its not for you.It also depends on how bad your dyspraxia is as no two dyspraxics will have exactly the same reflexes and eye conditions and of being cross laterally. It probably took about 18months to two years as they put you are a special exercise programme tailored to your dysfunction and these are done everyday at home for about eight to ten weeks then when you return they will measure how much you have improved and whether you go on to the next exercise to improve another reflex. You carry on until they think you have come as far as you can and thats pretty much it. This costs around 800 to 1000 pounds that was about 11years ago so I have no idea how much it costs now or how much the Dore costs. My son had tremendous eye hand co-ordination and his handwriting was really bad I didnt think it did much for that and yet other people might say different. I too have dyspraxia but decided I wouldnt go.Hope thats gives you a better insight into what goes on.

Re: Dore programme
Sounds like I would get the same results by going to pilates class and buying a wobble board!

Re: Dore programme
It sounds to me that it may help some depending upon an individual's situation. Regarding what 'londoncatlover' mentioned about pilates and a wobble board, has anyone had any success with that pathway (it would certainly be cheaper I think than the Dore programme if it does help).
