Hello from Essex and please advisex

Post by Miss Pitsea »

Hello
I am a 38 year old girl from Essex. I was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with dypraxia. I was diagnosed a few eyar ago as dyslexic.
sicne I was child I have always had difficulties with may aspcts of ligfe. these inclued reading, wrting, numbers, telling teh time, counting, knowing my left and right, I hate noise, can not bear bright lights, get maiaganes, have no friends, can not socialise at all. I am ok on a one to one basis but oter than that no way! I can nto talk ont eh telepone eaither. I feel like I am in a flaoting buble, a world of my own! I get tearful and angry for no reason and like routeen. I fall and knock into things and have bad perception and teh world is a difficult plave. I hate being toched or close and have not had a priopr relationshop.
Well, I stuggles with life, mum new I was diffrent as i was slow learing adn wen I was a child she tohgt I was deaf! I can not ehar properly but this is due to brain waves, not hearing! I also used to ahve like seizures too! The docs said I was a naughty child!! Grrr!

I also ahve oter health problems too! I have Coliac diease thus a gluten and dairy free diet adn problems absorbing nutritnes so i am unserweight and my muscles are not formed properly. I have ME, ostoporosis and scolliosis and fibromyalgia!

On the plus side, i have not let my conditons get me down and work full time, althought I have been told by my docs to go part time as I am not feeling good, struggling with life and such!

I have been issued by my doc a pair of spectacles. They have green lenses and wow!! The world is a little better!! Amazing!! They are to help with light sensitivity, reading etc.
I ahve had them one week so far so good!

I jsut came accorss this forum today and wanted to join in and find out how other people are getting on with life with this conditon and if anyone has any tips for me, esp around teh area of making some friends. I am lonely but can not make friends. I just would love to have someone to chat to and laugh with.

Also I am on lower rate DLA but that was for my other conditons. Now i have this diagnosis do you thinks I should apply for a higer rate, like medium? Esp as i have to reduce work?

So sorry this is such a long long post!

Thank you so much for reading!

xxxxxx :D

Hi

I am should be moving to Vange soon. how did you get diagnosed on NHS or private? As nothing available in Havering where I live at present.

I also have other problems but not the same as you however you have an answer now and may help with some of the other issues as well. I hope things take a turn for the better =D>

Hello

Nice to hear from you. When are you moving to Vange? I hope you will be happy there. I am not too far from Vange myself.

I actually go an assessment year ago art college for dylsiexia and then Access to work at my job. I was told by the assessor from Access to Work i have dyspraxic tendances.

I wnet to specailist opthomagist and booked an eye test. i told teh opthomatrist all my symptons, the sensaqtivity to light, the head pains the lack of perception,my moods, reading and number probs. He said if ok with me he would test me. I had a 2.5 hour test and he confirmed it. It entaled rediong words and also numbers in grids asking me about my daily livng and skills etc.
I was then prescribed my spectacles with green lenses.

I wnet to my GP and took the scrpit with me and looking at my case history and that I have been assessed by social Services too agreed the diagnosis. I also have a physio who confirmed too. He is at Orsett hospital.

A strage way to get diagnosed I know, but at least I know what is wrong and it makes sence.

I am sorry you have oter helath problems and worries and hope you can get help to feel better.
If I can help you let me know and i will do my best.

Thak you for reading and answerrign me.

Well welcome to the forum - you are not alone with your issues, and I have to say its verry good that you are getting on with things and not letting it get you down too much - thats verry impresive in its self.
Now i have this diagnosis do you thinks I should apply for a higer rate, like medium? Esp as i have to reduce work?
Yea I think you should try to apply for a higher rate - you are entilted to it even if they dissagree.

Hey Essex people! Used to live in Pitsea myself and still have family in Laindon/Lee Chapel South.

I think I'm right in saying that there is very little in the way of support for people with SpLDs in Essex, unlike many other places.
