Introduction

Post by Mark_1987 »

I am Mark and live in the Netherlands (explains the grammar), live with my perants and brother at home. I am 23 and i was diagnosed with Dyspraxia when i was 18. Nothing really changed since then. I go to school and have a job at a servicedesk that provides help to people with computer problems, it is going very well (excerpt the school part).

I always run into things and people, also handwriting is a mess and i have trouble with math. But what really concerns me is my already bad short-term memory, i forget things all the time.

Well, i hope to get some help and info on this forum.

Lists....lists and more lists. Anything that can be written down should be written down in either a notebook or diary or planner. If you don't write it down you'll be trying to remember it anyway and that's exhausting. If you write it down you can think about other things that have to be dealt with. As for school. Hang in there. School is horrible when you're in it but it will end eventually.

That one is a bit of a problem. Unless I slow down my own is chronic as well....worse now that I use a computer...my hands get really tired so I was told to get a ball to exercise with....got the ball...havent' got round to using it yet! Got some other excercises from the physio but just havent' got around to them either...flat out with work. just trying to stay on top of things. I did think of something else I was going to tell you but can't remember...To be honest the thing I would do would be to get some handwriting books that you'd have in school if you have such a thing in the Netherlands and start again. Everytime I've tried to fix something from the middle it hasn't worked but when i go back to the start again as if I am just starting to learn it I seem to do a better job of it the second time round. Hope that works with French because I've started learning it again!

My mother made me learn joined writing over a summer because my writing was so bad and she thought it would speed me up. It did but it was still illegible so I'd have to rewrite all of my notes at night. They say though that you only remember a small portion of what you hear in a lecture...something like 30% but if you rewrite very quickly afterwards you will remember 70%. I never did it but I was told to use a tape recorder to record lectures to help me remember what was said. I'm not sure how well that would have suited me because I'd be having to concentrate on the tape...I think getting the powerpoint presentations before the lecture was brilliant. becaues I could concentrate on the lecture and only write down what I really needed to add. This is new of course so in my first time round in college they didn't have such a thing.

memory is a really tricky thing. I'm very visual so I use mind maps, lists, pictures, etc to remember but other people on the forum like to listen to things and take them in better that way. If you could think about what the best way you learn is and then ask everyone for suggestions because you'll get some great ideas from the forum.

Wel i learn best when i repeat things, but it takes a long time before i "get" it, if i do, then there is no problem.

I also tend to get very stressed out when i lose things or when i'm around people and my hands are shaking (tremor) or when i make a mistake.

I know what you mean mate, I read a sentence about 10 times before I understand what I'm reading!
