I found this site because I was curious as to whether my inability to feel pain like a "normal" person was linked to Dyspraxia and thankfully it is. Ill tell you a story as to why i became curious.

On Thursday i went on a 4 day hike of the Snowy Mountains (Australia). On Friday, thankfully we had already decided to pull out because of bad weather but I fell down the hill and needed to get rescued by emergency services.

I have torn tendons on both sides of my foot and will be on crutches for a month but except for the 2 panodol I took 1 hr after doing the injury, I am on no pain killers. I cant put weight on the ankle and yet I wouldnt say I am in pain, I just know its not "normal", although the extreme swelling would have given that away

So what triggered the thought is the continual questions about am I in pain etc when personally I feel like a slacker for not being able to go for a walk around the block so yes I am fairly sure I have a VERY high pain threshold. I guess in some ways this is good as it explains why a pack of painkillers lasts a year but I cant help wondering if it doesnt mean that on occasion I do do more damage to myself because I dont have the same sense of pain.

Well, its good to know I am "normal" for half of this elite collective, its comforting.

oh my god, this is so weird. So I guess after all I must be dyspraxic. I don't feel pain either: I have sprained both anckles several times, because my ankles twist sometimes for no particular reason. My right ankle is oermanently swollen, but I can walk perfectly well (well, perfectly well, apart from bumping into things, but that's different) without feeling pain.I just notice it when doing some bindings in yoga. I have bruises in my legs almost permanently, but I never feel when I got them. Once I torn the ligament of my thumb (dancing!) and I went to hospital, not because I was feeling much pain, but because I couldn't hold things. And I left hospital in a caster plast and they had to operate it!

Me too. I hate even having my blood pressure taken because my arm is bruised afterwards. I won't go for blood tests either (not that I need any as far as I know) but last time I went the needle hurt and I felt really ill because it was a fasting blood test and II feel so sick if I don't have breakfast. My friends say I'm a wimp but I just don't do pain!

I had a blood test today. It didn't hurt too much. Luckily it was not a fasting one as I also feel sick if I don't have breakfast.

I'm the same with cuddles now as i have rib cage/stomach and back pain. a cuddle can feel like bricks somedays. It's weird because i am the opposite as i can go on till 3pm without feeling hungary at all and my sugar levels remain normal 24/7. Or is it because i am always feel full 24/7, even though i have lost over 2 stone untentionally.

I respond differently to diffenret kinds of pain. Mostly I think it's that I have a normal threshold, but am a wuss when it comes to some things. I cannot tell if I burn my mouth on hot liquids or food, to the point I once took a cookie out of my mouth because of the bubbly feeling and sizzling sound. Unfortunately, I still feel the effects of biting an inflamed premaxilla.

Exact opposite. Would readily accept the title of "wimp"

i feel pain so much more than most people seem to, but i manage to hide it, sometimes even from myself. for example i will forget it hurts to stand up, untill i actually try to stand up, and i collapse.

right now, i am damn sure i have fractured a bone in my face, and it hurts so much to do most things, but i make myself do them, i can make myself do things (like opening my mouth) that would normaly be impossable from the pain. (i dosent really help that i am too scared to go to A&E as i know half the people who work there, and when you know the staff, patient confidentiality can quite easily go out the window.)

i think it helps that i get a lot of practice with dealling with pain because i walk into stuff, and fall down so oftten.

I'd imagine I have a very low pain threshold.

I've been told I have a high pain threshold cos i don't realize I'm bleeding or that I'm bruised etc and just get up after things that other people say should have crippled me, but i don't know if its cos i have a high pain tolerance or because I'm so horribly accident prone I've got used to crippling myself and don't worry about it anymore :).
