I'm a leftie but find handwriting easy- my day-to-day handwriting is messy, but that's just more the style and speed at which I write than anything ( I can write fast). Back at school my handwriting was fairly neat, I used a calligraphy-like cursive, although as I got older I would never be able to finish essay style questions for exams (I'd leave entire 25 mark questions unfinished or undone), but that's because an organizational problem, not writing speed. I did sound my concerns out to my psychologist before the diagnosis, but in the end it was still felt that we're dealing with dyspraxia (the OT picked up some issues with gross/fine motor skills, balance and visual sequencing). I do trust my psychologist, who is very meticulous, will listen to the concerns of clients, and is the sort who will pick up on stuff other psychologists have missed. Still, the few people who I have casually disclosed this to who have some knowledge of dyspraxia have all said I couldn't have it- so although having a label can help you start working on your issues, at the same time it's hard if you don't sound like you fit it either. Perhaps it's just a difference in the working definition of dyspraxia? I know there's definitely something 'off' with me- everyone whom I've ever worked with has noticed it, it affects me in planning everyday tasks, that anything that doesn't already have a lot of structure can leave me really struggling. It just sucks that no one will agree on what it is!
But for what it's worth, I hope it's okay with you guys that I stick around for a while to find things out .
