Hello from a MPhil Student

Hello

I'm new and I've just been diagnosed with dyspraxia today (28/12/10). I rushed home after my appointment with the Educational Psychologist and have been googling adult Dyspraxia for the last 3 hours as I've never heard of it.

I was a little shocked by the diagnosis, as I thought I was stupid, although the psychologist kept telling that I wasn't. I'm currently an MPhil student in a London Uni, hoping to do a PhD, but that is another story I will share with you some other time. I'm also dyscalculic and a member of dyscalculia.org.

I still haven't got all the answers about dyspraxia, but a lot of things made sense especially at work and how I interact with people.

I hope this forum can give me a lot more answers.

Hi Euphena and welcome to the forum - I think it's safe to say that if you're doing an MPhil then you're not stupid! I hope you learn some more about the condition from here - there's not a huge amount of info out there! I don't know about your uni, but mine (Cardiff) has a book called "Caged in Chaos" by Victoria Biggs which could be worth looking up - it's written from the point of view of Vicky as a dyspraxic teenager. Although I was in my mid 20s when I read it, I was still able to relate to much of it it. Try the uni library anyway, you never know what they may come up with!

Thank you for your warm welcome. I will locate the book you recommeneded. I'm still shocked by my diagnosis and would like some counselling to work out what I need to do next career wise etc

I think it's safe to say that if you're doing an MPhil then you're not stupid!

Just what I was going to say In fact many here are graduates or post graduates, so I wouldn't say Dyspraxia = stupidity, far from it in fact. I myself am currently doing a part time MSc. I wasn't "diagnosed" as an undergraduate, and don't have an "official" diagnosis at the moment, but am seriously considering getting one.
