The issues in my case with eye-contact is that I used to hate the way people would roll their eyes when I was talking. This was because I would ramble all over the place when I'd be trying to say something and they couldn't follow what was saying. There was also that sniggering when I would say the wrong thing or use the wrong words, etc. I couldn't bare it. It still happens but now I just say to myself that they are the gobshites not me.
Where as with Aspergers as far as I know they don't like the intesity of people looking at them. They are not good at pragmatics so they are not going to pick up on bodylanguage. They take things litterarly which is far more upsetting for them because idioms make no sense. There is a really good book that has examples of idioms that are confusing and when you look at the multi-choice for what they could mean you can see how it would be confusing. Like for example if you said: You're driving me up the wall or he was sitting in the sun....imagine what they'd be conjuring with those sayings. And it doesn't just have to be idioms a lot of language is confusing when you think about it.
