agree. I did kick boxing for a while and though I'm a bit slow for movements and reflexes, it did help a lot with balance as well.

Tip Needed:
When I give someone eye contact when we're having a discussion I feel my eyes glaze over ... i try really hard for it not to happen and am paranoid that they've noticed and think i'm bored! The only way to get back my focus is to look elsewhere and then re-focus on the person which again looks like i'm bored of them! Is there any tips or advice?
As for the initial something creative, I find learning by myself much easier then going to classes. I juggle and hula hoop and have got quite far by practising and creating on my own. If someone tries to teach me something I struggle and get impatient at the time it takes me and frustrated by not grasping what they are explaining.

I do it too and i have to blink and shake my head to get my eyes to focus on them. I'm not sure if people see it generally. Mind you when I'm talking to someone at interviews, etc. I must look really wierd cause I'm consentrating so hard on looking at them (have terrible eye contact) that I could very well be staring at them. Will keep an eye on this post to see if anyone has any good suggestions

Re: Tips or suggestions
Hey all,
My tip is not yoga, I'm too scared to do that as I would definately fall flat on my face. My balance is nil!
However, I did do mountain biking for years and years as a kid and still cycle a lot. I know it sounds crazy and not very dyspraxic friendly, but if youstart slow, doing things that aren't challenging. Like a cycle path through a wooded area that has been flattened etc it's ok, work up to the big stuff if you feel comfortable! I just found that it really really helped my spatial awareness and balance. The knowledge that it WILL hurt if I crash in to that tree was a brilliant incentive for me! I think being a fearless child helped though...
Anyway, maybe that will be of help to someone....
Does anyone have tips by the way on not getting distracted so easily, and procrastinating? I have a ton of deadlines next week for uni work and I've barely started. I see a hugs challenge like all that work and get so intimidated that I just don't start! Even when I do (i actually started one essay a few hours ago) I get easily distracted, hance being on here.. Help!

Re: Tips or suggestions
Hmm, well I was gievn a tip a while back to discipline yourself to just 15 minutes per day. I knwo that sounds tiny and not very productive, but the way it is supposed to work is that if you can just sit down and write (or research, indeed) for just 15 minutes, even if you give up after that, at least you have done something. Then if you decide to go and listen to music/feed the cat/burn a pizza/whatever, at least you've done 15 minutes worth of work. If you think you can go on after that 15 minutes, by all means do, but if you can't you can at least feel safe in the knowledge you worked hard for that quarter of an hour. Now I know this might not be so good with a week to do before deadlines, but try it next term as a technique. I've used it for a few of my Masters assignments, and I have found it effective - and I'm a huge procrastinator!littlemissbump14 wrote: Does anyone have tips by the way on not getting distracted so easily, and procrastinating? Re: Tips or suggestions
Many thanks LadyFluff, I will try that! I now have 1 essay written. So, I can be very productive and do things, but only when the deadline is on top of me. (and i'm sure the quality would increase if it weren't a rush job) I'm now onto trying to read an entire 16th century spanish play by the morning for a presentation. I did do 15 ins earlier though!

Re: Tips or suggestions
hiya,
i was worried about the eye contact thing but i try too hard to make eye contact sometimes and people think i am staring them out and it used to get me in quite a few fights so then i tried to miminise eye contact but then people take that as a sign of weakness so then i would have people trying to bully me and i would end up fighting again i got into a fair bit of trouble because of this and my family thought i was a bad lad wen i just wanted to have a normal social life
i done a bit of muay thai a few years ago and now want to start again as it helped with my confidence , balance and coordination immensley so i would definitley recommend that

Re: Tips or suggestions
hey littlemissbump, I had missed this thread. What are you reading? let me know if I can be of any help (I did Spanish literature in Spain up to A level and the in first three years of classics, so I may have read what you're reading). Also, do you know el ricon del vago? as its names says, you may find a lot of books reviews and help with assignments for big procrastinators.

I'll second fans of Google streetview! Absolutely love it. I give myself verbal checklists a lot, where things like checking I have everything I need before I leave the house are concerned. I also try to do things while I remember to do them even if they don't need to be done at that exact moment, and keep things in a consistent place.

Re: Tips or suggestions
I have just seen your post Evasura.
Thanks so much for your offer of help, it is very kind of you. I am currently doing La historia de la moja alferez, Carolia de Euraso, escrite por ella misma. (which, incidentally, is quite a good read just for fun) I need to reflect upon how it shows us the hierarchies of golden age spain. I've done about 40 mins on it so far today, which is good!
I will try el rincon del vago. Is it a book or website? I'll pop it in google and see if that tells me!

heard of la Monja... byut never read it. Weird. Not among the classics that we read. El RIncon del Vago is a website, where you can find essays, etc already done. You just need to adapt them for your needs.
