I am on a two week trial at a restaurant for a commis chef position that I am hoping to get after being made redundant in December, and this is my first week, tonight I misread one of the tickets and only did 1 dessert as opposed to two of the same dessert i was supposed to make resulting in Chef (who is French) having a massive go at me outside later that evening (and me having a secret cry in the car) I really hope I can stop making silly mistakes like this and get the job. After 45 job applications and 17interviews I need to get it.
Sorry rant over I just needed to vent.

Oh hell yeah! I know this well! I'm a chef myself and i find the work okay, just the bloody head chefs etc I had no work through the hole of 2009 noteven a responce to ANY of my applications nothing! I once worked in a hotel on the shores of a scottish loch and the sous chef was french, biggest p**k i have ever met! Head chef's don't understand, they don't care and this idea its okay to treat people like **** because you were treated liek **** has to stop!
I do my best and i always seam to end up getting treated like a skiviy, i'm not a kitchen bitch thats why we have kitchen porters. I hate being told am lazy, stuipd or the worest yet, a ****ing retard!
One of the restaurants i worked in, my two days off were saggered, i asked onbe day if i could change them so that if for instance i wanted to i could go and see my sister in glasgow. I was told no, fair enough. The following morning i had a puncture and i couldnt drive my car to town to get it repared so i had to call the mobile van out. I phoned into work to tell them and the woman who answered the phone said it was okay, get it reapred and we'll see you tomorow. Fine i thought. Later that afternoon after 5 hours, the van appreaed and fixed my tyre. The sous chef phoned me an hour os so later and said "why are you not at work?" i said i'd phoned in at 9 and was told it was okay. he said "your a bullshitter, your in glasgow" I said, no i'm not, he followed that with we'll talk about it 2moro. I was rangeing and being called a bullshitter. i told my mum and she pritned of the online phone bill and higlighted the restaurants number and time of the call, at 9am! I took it in teh foolowing day and shoved it under his noise. he said, what the hell is this you lieing bastard! I said"your ****ing proof of where i was and what i did when i said i did it you prick" "don't ever question me a gain you arse hole!" and walked out! Aye game over, but do i care ? not at all, he's a dick and allways will be a dick and if i ever see him again i'll be dam sure to make sure he knows i think that!
I think i've made my point about how i feel about chefs! lol

wowsers wel at least its not me being over-sensitive I hate the way they assume knowledge ayou should and treat you as if you have worked there for years and know everything when Ihave only been there for 5 shifts gah!

I have worked in catering in one form or another since I left school into my early thirties and some of the chefs I have worked with have been fine while others have been totally ignorant, arrogant and a complete pain... Often it is the luck of the draw...
When I have been working and the company take complete advantage especially over the hours worked and pay I have soon found other employment and jumped ship...

Re: arghhhh!
I've just had to walk over a dispute with pay as a waiter. I'm suprised I kept the job so long but I think my dyspraxia has something to do with the advantage they have had since they've known from day 0 if not day 4. I was at it for months trying to show keeness and a learning of the trade. Sadly I was just turned into a bit of a runt and even KP'd. They haven't done any of the training they said they'd do and have had me working long hours with no break late and for half the pay. I want whats mine - any advice?Liz944 wrote:I have worked in catering in one form or another since I left school into my early thirties and some of the chefs I have worked with have been fine while others have been totally ignorant, arrogant and a complete pain...
