Organisations that maybe of help to us....!

Post by peterkeegan »

Hi Gang

Been doing more searching yes thats right folks more searching...! I have found organisations that might support our plight in this mad crazy mixed up world as we are the sane ones (except me...!).

 For Nurses....The Modernising Nursing Careers (NMC) framework-developed by Department of Health (DoH) in England (Wales, Scotland, N.Ireland and Ireland) may have their own versions. In a nutshell it identifies Five Nursing Career Pathways if Nurses become disabled due to injury or illness, are disabled and are unable to do their original job role. Get on to the DoH website or contact the Royal College of Nursing (RCN).

Anyone who is a student at University/ College or whos work involves quite a bit of IT, you might find this useful or maybe not. Again feedback if you would please:

Ability Net for advice and information (good for IT stuff) PO Box 94, Warwick, CV34 5WS. Free Phone (Telephone and Text) 0800 269545 or 01928 312847. Website: http://www.abilitynet.org.uk Email: enquires@abilitynet.org.uk

Broadbent & Co - Independent Assessment Centre and Service - Address: Premier House, Manchester Road, Mossley, Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire, OL5 9AA Telephone: 01457 835568 Mobile: 07801 586206 Email: broadbent co@bt connect.com (Check the email is correct if not let me know and I will correct it). Website: http://www.broadbentco.co.uk "Assessment of study needs of disabled student applying for Disabled Students Allowance (DSA)" (IT stuff and Accessories)

If you are a student your university or college should pay for this not you. If you are working your employer should pay for this though you have to contact Access to Work before doing anything else (North West, North East, Yorkshire, Eastern England and Scotland 01204 516480) Ask your disability rep or equality and diversity manager for the number. If you are unemployed speak to the Disability Employment Advisor. Make sure you have a disability report handy. Just editted into this message South West England and Wales 02920 423291. London, South Coast and South East England 020 826 3110.

Theres a 60 Million pound budget in the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)for people like us to access to help get on a level playing field, lets put it to good use.

shouldn't be for access to work it would be very bad politics plus the house of lords debated and asked the now government for assurances that Access to work would continue without cuts and apparently it will as stated in the house of lords.

to add to the post Department of Health website "Valuing people" maybe of interest to some people though it doesn't mention dyspraxia but it is geared towards people with learning difficulties/disabilities.

Also the "Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities" United Nations General Assembly, Sixty Six Session, Item 67 (b) 6th December 2006

Having spoken recently to Access to Work type people, You don't have to have a formal diagnosis of dypraxia, dyslexia etc and can still qualify for assistance though it is better that you do have a formal diagnosis with a report but it is up to the individual assessor who comes into your workplace whether or not they will carry out an assessment if you have no formal assessment/report.

For those in the Liverpool Area.....Ranstad HR Solutions seem to be on the ball and in the process of waiting to be tutored by a Michelle Pennington, a person who specialises with students and employees with Dyspraxia, Dyslexia & Dyscalulia. I have just got to wait for my employers to get their thumbs out of their backsides and start making decisions.

Anyway Ranstad HR solutions was pre arranged by Access to work and is funded by access to work. Ranstad 0845 130 4655.

Finally got my support going its only taken a year for my bosses to get their thumbs out of their backsides and sort out the issues that were outstanding. I am really happy to be moving forward at long last.
