I've been reading a website by a disability organisation that says that disability affects women differently to men, something I strongly agree with. It goes on to say that women are conditioned to feel that they absolutely must be able to do housework and other conventional tasks to a high standard but that men were less likely to feel guilty about what they couldn't do and be comfortable in themselves if, say they were a highly skilled accountant and could work at a desk all day.
I often feel even if I was a rocket scientist it would mean a thing without the ability to do everyday activities- ironing, cleaning the floor, and even more importantly the interpersonal skills to love person and care for their needs. In other words common sense and nurturing skills. On the other hand a male friend of mine pointed out that practicality and common sense aren't just feminine, even from a traditional way of looking for things. He'd just spent the weekend putting up tents and choppng wood. I know times are changing but how much do you think your gender determiines how dysraxia affects you and how yu resond t it?

Gender divide
'I always ran after the ball because, after all, Mary, the ball is important in a game, isn't it? until I found they didn't like me doing that because I never got near it or hit it or did whatever you are supposed to do to it.'
Re: Gender divide
Ah now this is social identity placed on and nurtured into the in idnvidual . However peopel with Dyspraxia , have a hard time fitting into either roles (lacks common sense , poor hand eye co-ordination (odd jobs , putting on make up , shaving etc).
Id like to see this report but i feel its working froma little out date social sterotypes . One big advantage of being ND is relsiing that sometimes you just have to totally ignore these types (that and there is a throey that because our Thalimus's are underdeveloped and the Corpus Corellus (which is the ridge between the two hemispheres of the brain and possibly contains basic sexual identity information (theory at moment)) our identities could be inherantly differnet from our physicall sexual shapes (this isnt even taking into account Chromosones , hormonal balance or inbalance , and that male and female brains in practcie are wired a little differntly anyway )
Btw slap your firend for saying women are not practical or have common sense
(Land Army gladies of WWII at the very least never mind running most of teh worlds societies
)
At the enf of teh day its the wiring you have and what yo udo with it.

Re: Gender divide
I think there are different pressures on men and women still, but it seems both have their problems with dyspraxia.
Women "should" remember birthdays, recognise pepole, multitask, etc
Men "should"be good at sports and physical tasks, be focused on the task at hand, etc
I have only been subject to female and unisex pressures, so I can't possibly compare.
