Hi

Post by Vonkate »

Hello all, my name is Kate porter, I live in the north east of England, near Newcastle. I have had dyspraxia since I was little, it affected me alot during my school years. I got very badly bullied which I beleive it because of my dsyprexia but other people disagree with me, I am hopefully getting married next year, I would love to meet some new friends that suffer from dysprexia, so I have someone to talk to because I find it very hard making friends and meeting new people, so I don't really have many friends that I can call good friends,
hopefully speak 2 some of u soon,

Welcome to the forum!

I got bullied at School too & my latest Manager referred to me as 'Quirky'.

I find bullies are rarer now, as I stand up to them more. If they don't respect you, then they are breaking the 'Do as you would be done by' Golden rule & means that they aren't entitled to it either.

Friendships are very tricky, though there are quite a few of us around & (from customer services), I've found 99% of people are kind & understanding...

Hope the Wedding goes well!

Thank you for the replay,
do you openly share your condition or keep it to yourself?
Because I get embrassed talking to people about it.

Share it.
Though I get a lot of incredulous looks & people who ask what it means but then don't understand.

I get that alot, the people I do tell ask what it is, but the thing is I never knew what it was myself untill I started researching it.
Since researching it I feel somewhat better about my dyspraxia, if that makes any sense..

Thank you.

I think the main thing I have trouble with is communcaton and understanding other people, I have found ways of getting around others things but the communcation is causing big problems for me at the moment. Do you have any similar problems? Sometimes i dont understand what people are trying to explain to me and i get frustrated and then i can lose my temper and behave in a childish manner.

Hi, I'm Owen. I am 35 and live in Yorkshire. I have dyspraxia and had it all my life but didn't get diagonosed with it until i was 28! I am sorry to hear that u got bullied at school, bullies are just insecure cowards they have got a chip on there shoulder they must have or they would respect people. When you say 'bullied' i take it u mean it wud turn nasty at times....in my case i wasn't bullied to that extent at school but i was teased a lot because i was different and a slow learner and dressed differently from the others and i guess they didn't like this. Kids can be cruel. I went to a Steiner school it's a private/Independent and they don't wear uniforms there. I can understand you getting angry when you can't understand people and i really feel for you as i have been in the same situation very often when i have been emloyed in the past and have found it hard to follow instructions too people can say things to me but it won't always register!

yeah, they would be really nasty at school, send me nasty messages, follow me home from school to scare me. it was never physical until i made it, i got sick if it and i started a fight with them, they came off worse but i had a black eye for a couple of days. After that i started getting respect of people at school i think it was because they were scared of me. Since school i have been proving to myself and the bullies that i wasnt stupid, i now know that i dont need to becuase i am never going to see them again and i know myself that i am not stupid.
I get that, people look at me with a funny look when i ask them to repeat instructions.

I am glad u fought back...u do right standing up for yourself! Once people see u won't take no crap they will respect you. A situation happened with my brother (who doesn't have dyspraxia) when he was at school some kid pestering him but when my brother fought back they were best of friends after that so it can work in some cases. People use to say to me just ignore people who give u a hard time but it is hard to do that i get sensitive and find it hard to read people at times.

I'm the same I can't read thier body language, I can't work out if somebody is joking or not, and then I get annoyed, then arguments start. That normally between me and my boyfriend. If people are having conversations and they ate taking about something I don't understand I try to join in but I say something that dosnet mean anything to the conversation, I get looks that I am stupid, which makes me angry, and it makes me feel left out because I feel like I get join in just in case I do feel stupid, this normally happens at home which makes me uncomfortable, which makes me not want to be at home!

i'm a female with dyspraxia too. i was bullied a lot at school too, changed when i was 15. it's sad that loads of dyspraxics are and not taken seriously enough. but what i realise is that even though childhood problems go away others in adulthood take their place, ie difficulty at work.
dyspraxia is nothing to be embarrassed about, i tell myself it's more shameful if people don't understand you!
