it does hurt
Re: week ankles
I'm actually quite used to it. Also I am undersensitive to pain and hyperflexible, which helps. It just hurst sometimes. Last week I twisted them twice, that I can recall, and one of them hurt, btu not the other (both the same ankle). Not sure what it depends of

Re: week ankles
My son has broken both his ankles in would could only be discribed as pathetic accedents, he has had to have both ankles plated Left side has 2 plates & the right has one. the right one was broken in June last year & he is still in a lot of pain & its only over the last couple of weeks he is starting to get about without crutches.
Re: week ankles
I tend to go over on both ankles but mostly the right one when I'm wearing flipflops/mules, shoes that don't give any support and it hardly ever hurts!
Re: week ankles

Re: week ankles

Re: weak ankles
Hi Alex, I am an orthotist and an adult with dyspraxia as well as a mom to two children with dyspraxia. Yes, your weak ankles are associated with dyspraxia. They are not really "weak" as much as too loose. Hypotonia or low muscle tone is often associated with dyspraxia. This means that there isn't sufficient tension in your tendons and you have too much mobility in your joints (knees are often hyper-extended as well). So you tend to sprain or twist your ankes much more easily than the rest of the adult population. You can also fracture your ankle very easily in a minor accident as you don't have the normal protection from your tendons to hold your bones in the correct alignment. I suggest that you see a podiatrist or an orthotist (with a prescription from your doctor) to have a pair of custom shoe inserts made. These inserts may be a complete pain to get used to, but will provide a lot of stability to your feet/ankles and may prevent further damage and/or pain. For women, the bad part of all this is that the really sexy high heels are out of the question. My husband keeps telling me "if you would only practice you would be able to wear them".
If you have young children with this problem, there is a great product called a Surestep (http://www.surestep.net) which will protect their ankles and help them develope a more normal way of walking.
Good luck and try to always wear a good pair of shoes whenever you are doing anything that requires stability (like climbing a ladder, walking up stairs, carrying heavy objects, hiking, etc...)

Re: weak ankles
How intresting . The only injures i woudl ever pick up would be twisted ankels . Oddly ive alwyas been very strong (not so much now ) and used to bench as rep 250lbs with my legs . and never broken a bone (even after hitting solid objects at hi speed ). I wounder if the looseness can add as a buffer which displaces kinetic impact ?
Re: weak ankles
thank you very much for that i used to have inserts and had to wear boots around school to give my ankles support i also wear boots at work and i have to say it does help i go over accausionally but not as much as i used too
Re: weak ankles
My foot sometimes just flops when I walk along, I'm too scared about wearing high feels cause if I do I'll twist my ankle.
Re: weak ankles
i dont like wearing flip flops i do occusionly go over when iam running very fast
