Do you drive a manual or automatic car?

Post by Liz944 »

What sort of car do you drive? What are your preferences?

Me personally I get on better with a manual car - but then I learnt on it and have no clue how to drive a automatic car - never had to drive one...

How has everybody else got on????

I drive a manual, automatic is easy enough to pick up if someone shows you how to work the gearstick for drive, reverse, etc.

I prefer a manual as it is more fun to drive, dropping a gear to overtake, etc.

I'm learning to drive in a manual and are finding the clutch tough. I plan to get an automatic when I pass, as it's much easier, brake and accelerator.
My Dad can drive both easily and says I would find automatic much easier.

I drive both of my parent's cars which are manual's,

as my last car got written off by the insurance company after a grandad hit it, while it was parked on the other side of the road! so ended up spending my birthday on the phone to them!

I never had any problems learning in a manual car, as I learned changing gears, etc. on an arcade game, and asking my mother how you do the accelerator and clutch.

I found it hard driving an automatic though! your left foot is redundant!! and found that it felt really really weird!

Automatic all the way baby!!!!!!!

I drive a VW Lupo and a Nissan Micra - they're both automatics.
When I first started in to learn to drive, I learnt with a manual - and it was horrible- I got all muddled and confused. BUT - then I switched to automatic.....THANK G-D............

I've always driven manual cars, clutch control was a real challenge at the start but I got to have a go on my father's tractors, which helped me a lot, that and riding an old trials bike around the farm.

Autos are a much better bet if you find a clutch difficult, but if you've already learnt to drive a manual, going over to auto is a real challenge, I drove a V6 automatic Rover 75 at a car club meet, around a car park, and I kept hitting the brake thinking it was a clutch!

I drive an automatic, I tryed to learn to drive a manual transmition car once,...

my brothers really good at it, hes even taught plenty of others,...

when I tryed I blew the transmition on my first time out, it had to be completely replaced, I think I'm done,

I'll stick to an automatic,

I passed in a manual however never felt very confident with the starting and stopping. Following a break from driving I've now bought an automatic to ease getting back into it. May or may not move back to a manual in the future but automatic is doing it for me at present.

Hey I started to learn in a manual and actually found it ok, I then had to stop as I had to move away when I retuned home I started learning in an automatic, and the difference was huge, It took me a year exactly yo learn and pass my test in an automaic, I was learning in a manual for over a year and a half and wasnt put in for one test. I think ill stick to automatic until I have more confidence in me driving.

I'm only licensed to drive an automatic - the manual was too much for me.
