Cooking
I don't do much cooking at home. My parents do it for me. I was doing some before Christmas but after that a got a virus that took months to get rid of. I still keep comming down with things. Basically I am feeling bad that I have got out of the habit. I am nervous about cooking again as I know I will really struggle!

Good luck. I've got out of the habit of cooking the last few months, we're moving house on Saturday so once everything is unpacked I want to get back into a routine of cooking proper meals again. Far too many takeaways and eating out the last few months (certainly showing on the old waistline, cripes!)

It's nice to know I'm not the only one who has got out of the habit of cooking! I did heat a baked potato in the oven tonight. I know this is simple and doesn't really count but it's more than I've done for a while.

I do cook at the moment, just not as much as I used to. I made a really nice curry about 2 weeks ago

If it doesnt go in te microwave I cant cook it... Not that I cant cook, its just too dangerous to go near the cooker... I could burn or kill myself in the event of a seizure.

I eat out at lunch time most days to save cooking. I don't like bread so I always find it difficult to know what to eat at lunchtime. Any suggestions?

I get incredibly stressed when I cook. I don't know why 'cos I'm generally quite an organised person. It all goes wrong in the kitchen, though. Recipes have to be quite simple and there can't be ANYONE ELSE IN THE KITCHEN or I go nuts and start shouting at them to get out.
I have a very precise routine for certain things (such as making my coffee in the morning) and if anything gets in the way, I find it really disconcerting and things become much harder.
I'm also really sensitive to smell so I don't like being around other people when they're frying food.
To top it all off, I'm extremely worried about fire and electricity, so that's never helped!

As for the various bits people have been saying, cooking is something i learned gradually, when i was fairly young my parents always encouraged me to make cakes and things, i couldn't stir the mix properly but I got there in my own way. I think the reward of cake at the end was a pretty good motivation
Anyway, things like baked potatoes and stuff like that are very easy. Also, saviour of the day is a George Foreman grill, stick some meat in there, leave it, it's so easy like a toaster, also i hear it's healthier.
I think the key is to find a few recipes you like that are simple, and if you can afford it use pre-prepared ingredients when you can, as these are just as healthy. Things like pre-cut vegetables, pre-grated cheese, sliced bread (bakers will generally slice any of their bread for you, although it does go off quicker). These sorts of things work really well for anyone who can't do those things themselves without a risk of personal injury.
Anyway, I've gone on too long again.

I'm okay with doing the actual cooking such as chopping up stuff (I have to go real slow though otherwise I won't have any fingers left!) and washing things etc. What I struggle with is the actual monitoring of it.

my recipes always call for a handful of something. most of my cooking involves a quick glance at a recipe, and the rest gets ad-libbed

Hi all, I’m a newbie to this sight and so far it appears to be really good. I’ve never used sites like this so I’m hoping that this message goes out correctly.
I have a query and hoping that someone can help because i feel like I’m losing my mind and feel extremely dumb. I’m 21 and still living at home and I’m in a serious relationship I’ve tried making my partner cooked meals/snacks sometimes these meals are cooked spontaneously or by following recipes but I just seem to get it wrong each time.
The worst thing is I can’t figure out where I’m going wrong, usually because I can’t remember what to do or I forget and I seem to be in a constant phase of confusion, lost and it feels like I’m standing there with nothing in my head.
Although his comments/ reactions are endearing I know that the meal/snack really wasn’t nice. For example I burnt a boiled egg lol. I really want to impress him and I know that practice makes perfect I want to know whether my bad cooking skills are because I wasn’t born to be a natural cook or because im dyspraxic?

I cook occasionally. i prefer to cook everything in 1 pot, like risotto, bolognese..If I am cooking several prts of a meal I get confused and have to set the alarm on my phone. Timings are a problem for me. I also get bored cooking and wander off and stert looking at the computer. Several times my friend has come over for a meal and I have let stuff boil dry.

I enjoy cooking, though, I don't do it very often... I don't think other people would like what I make. I like my pasta a little tougher and I've got SID, so everything I make is either super spice, super sweet or the like. But still, food tastes better when you make it yourself :3

I'm trying to cook a bit more because my boyfriend always does it.. but I can never do it right. I get stressed because of the timings or do something stupid (for example, the top on the chilli grinder fell off and chilis went EVERYWHERE.
) and I just feel useless. But I am trying to make more of an effort.
