So it appears some idiots in ivory towers have rephrased terminology of 'specific learning difficulty' to now be specific learning disability'
Is it just me or do others feel this a retrograde step?
To my mind, regrettably the word specific is far too easily missed off and we all end up being treated as third class citizens. I really do not consider this to be progress as the older British English understanding of the term learning disability will regrettably endure.
IMHO the IQ of the individuals responsible is likely well below 7 too!

Re: Is it just me or . . .
For me 'learning disability ' in the UK suggests people with an IQ <70. Unless they've decided to start using the USA definition of 'learning disability' .
Re: Is it just me or . . .
That is a lot of peoples'understanding and many would be concerned about what assumptions might then be made about them given general understanding of learning disability.
Of course it should never be assumed that those with what is termed a learning are necessarily incapable.
The individual comcerned volunteers as a DF Group Coordinator but works in Legal profession. He insists specific learning disability is better in terms that a disability is something that should give us protected status under the Equality Act 2010 whereas a difficulty cannot be considered.
The fact that he was being rude and condescending to those who challenged his insistence was not acceptable.
At present I can find no indication that the term specific learning disability exists in Uk Government Legislation though the individual seems to be citing as legal precedent from the F Ahmed vs Cardinal Hume Academy Employment Tribunal case.
