Dyspraxic Songs

Post by GWhizz »

Was listening to music yesterday for my radio show and one of the bands I played was the Zutons Pressure Point, confusion and Don't ever think too much and it spoke to me about dyspraxia.

The question is what songs remind you of dyspraxia?

Could you paste some lyrics from the song that you particularly relate to? I'm going to have a think of some songs myself and hopefully do the same.

The Zutons - Confusion

Confusion raining down from up high,
And all the time you ask yourself why,
Why can't you make decisions,
Can't make up your mind.

Although you're trying hard to forget,
The reason why you feel so mislead,
Now come on forgive me,
I'll help you accept.

Zutons - Pressure Point

I can't get this pressure point outta my head,
I can't get this pressure point outta my head,
I feel it in work, ya know i feel it in bed,
I can't get this pressure point outta my head,

A weary soldier, well i have become,
With all of this pressure, my mind's on the run,
Oh maybe a change and it's all for the best,
Or maybe it's something to get off my chest.

Zutons - Don't ever think (Too much)

Standing on the edge of the cliff
And I’m thinking it through my mind
I’m afraid that I’m about to slip
Cos my body is out of time
And I’m thinking thinking thinking thinking
Thinking till I’m nearly dead
Do you remember when you were young
Do you remember what your mother said

She said don’t ever think ever think ever think too much
You don’t ever think ever think ever think too much
You don’t ever think ever think ever think too much
You don’t ever think ever think ever think too much

Obsession is a terrible thing
Does it happen to everyone
Cos mother nature comes with a sting
And its bound to get everyone
And I’m lyin I’m lyin I’m lyin awake
Lyin in my burned out bed
Do you remember when you were young
Do you remember what your mother said
All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you - Gandalf

The The Raconteurs - Steady as She Goes always makes me smile. It seems to tell the story of how me n my fella got together...goin out/gettin wrecked/meetin other ppl, before we felt ready to settle down. The "steady as she goes" bit, to me, is about the woman in the song being dyspraxic, as much as it is about being in a steady relationship, and always makes me smile! :)

On a really, really bad day, it's Radiohead - Creep that speaks to me about dyspraxia!
I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never ever gonna keep me down :D

I always used to love Creep (even tho I first heard it when I was drunk in a nightclub and for ages thought he sung "but I'm a tree"!! #-o  ) but just recently I heard it, on a bad day, and totally identified with it from a dyspraxia point of view!

"these are the days when you wish your bed was already made"

Actually while reminding myself of the lyrics for this song I've discovered that one line is entirely different to how I thought it was:

"'Cause it takes me so long
Just to figure out what I'm gonna wear
Blame it on the train
But the boss is already there"

I always thought it the last line was "Blame it on the train when the bus is already there" going to show that it's sod's law that whichever form of transport you take to work, yours is the one that will always be delayed and will make you late! I guess in my case that's come from bitter experience of living in London, lol.

and that is coming from somewhere where everything runs, the more rural you go the less it runs, like at the moment my parent's live 3 miles outside town, and think there is only 3 buses a day that go that way, whereas if you are going the other way by the same distance there are 3 buses within 2 mins from the first to the last bus!

and they travel more or less in convoy! on the hour every hour.

although that is when the bus driver's can be bothered to start the engines!!

as for the song, then yes, it is a nice up tempo to it, so I do like it, and then thinking about being dyspraxic, then the words seem to fit even better!!

I would have to say - Land of Confusion, by Genesis, in particular the following lyrics,

too many men
there's too many people
making too many problems
And not much love to go round
tell me why this is the land of confusion

I'm not sure if its exactly right but its something like that

Oooh, I've just remembered another song that reminds me of living with dyspraxia...Pink-Don't Let Me Get Me! Some days I can identify with it, other days it makes me laugh at myself! :D

The Animals - Don't Bring Me Down

chorus:

When you complain and criticize
I feel I'm nothing in your eyes
It makes me feel like giving up
Because my best just ain't good enough
