Hi everyone,
I have just registered today
I was officially diagnosed with ASD in July this year (but had known for just over a year it was most probably the case).
As well as being on the spectrum, I have Irlen Syndrome and Restless Legs Syndrome. I've had a bit of trouble with eczema over the years too.
I'm here to read more about Dyspraxia prior to a forthcoming assessment to determine whether I have it as co-occurring condition, or just as 'part and parcel' of the Autism.
Take care,
CatstyeCam

Welcome CatstyeCam
I'm feel sure there must be more to you than a list of conditions but appreciate how we can become defined by them despite our best efforts to not be.

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the welcome Oh yes, there's a lot more to me - always has been, always will be!
It's just I'm at the time in my life where I have to deal with these things and get them sorted so I can move forward.
Cheers,
CatsyteCam

Re: Hello from the Lake District (Cumbria, UK)
Oh sorry Tom! I think you were politely hinting for me to put my hobbies and interests!
I had somehow missed the bit where it asks for that!
My first interests are music: writing songs, playing guitar, ukulele, recorders
My second set of interests are crafts and artwork: I make jewellery with beads, wire and ploymer clay. I love to draw occasionally
My latest interests (as can be seen in my profile) are forklift trucks! I have wanted to drive one since I was about four when I had a toy one with my Britains farm aninals. Many, many years later I can now drive a Low Level Order Picking truck (LLOP) and a Reach Truck (the tall ones that bring pallets down from high up in the warehouse racking).
Of course having ASD I could go on about my special interests for a very long time but I won't bore you - thanks for listening!

Apologies it wasn't an order as such (but many of us do have a habit of taking things quite literally) Its really nice for us to know a bit more about you. While we cannot but focus on our difficulties when things are not easy, I think it's important not to forget that there is more to us than a list of conditions/difficulties. We're still people and unique in our own way.
So is it a Counterbalance Fork Lift truck you dream of driving? I don't have all that much knowledge of these things, but was of the impression that the Reach Truck was the more challenging to operate?
I hope you find the forums helpful. I too have a bit of eczema which will flare up from time to time.

Hi again Tom
Yes, I can't wait to learn Counterbalance!
I don't know which is the more challenging to learn as I only drive one of them so far.
I think the Counterbalance is more at risk of overturning so where I work they teach us Reach Truck first.
I'll let you know when I learn Counterbalance!
Best wishes,
CatstyeCam
