Am I?

Hi,

I am new here and I am wondering whether I should get a diagnosis. I have personally found out about dyspraxia less than two weeks ago from a friend who got officially diagnosed as dyslexic and dyspraxic. And after googling the symptoms many seem to match up with my experiences like little things in my life finally made sense, but I can't help but wonder whether it's just all in my head and I'm simply overreacting and just clumsy. School was quite easy for me and I am studying at a really good university, thus reading and writing was never really a problem thankfully. However my time management skills were always lacking as I am always late, disorganized (although I learned that using lists helps a lot) and complete things last minute. Additionally, I lose focus very quickly especially in noisy places and my mind wanders a lot, which made my first year at uni quite difficult. Adjusting to new places is quite hard for me, I am also highly accident prone, always trip and fall, rubbish at directions and always confuse my left and right. My whole life Iv been told that I speak very unclearly and that I have shitty posture ( it's so frustrating). I'm also very bad at reading time and balance (although I'm relatively sporty and do kickboxing but it took me up till 5th grade to learn to catch a ball and tie shoelaces). Generally following physical sequences (e.g. Dance moves etc), and picking up social cues has always been very very diffucult for me. Any thoughts whether I'm a candidate for diagnosis as I don't want to waste anyone's time and whether getting a diagnosis will change anything/help ?

Hi and welcome

Sorry I can't offer a definitive answer on the basis of your posting. That would not be appropriate nor am I qualified to do so. Dyspraxia manifests itself in different ways and to varying degrees. Some people are better at developing and maintaining coping strategies to get by.

I feel a bit lazy tonight so please see my answer to another recent post http://www.dyspraxicadults.org.uk/forum ... f=4&t=5672.
Don't feel constrained to reading just that though as there may be other interesting/relevant posts that will help you. Do also check out the Dyspraxia Foundation and Dyspraxia related content on You Tube as that may also help you decide.

Hope you don't mind but I'm going to delete your duplicate post in Dyspraxia Chat.
