No NHS service for dyspraxia in adulthood

This morning I saw my GP as the first step towards diagnosis and help for dyspraxia, as advised on various websites. My GP clearly stated that there is no service for dyspraxia in adulthood for me to be referred to. She referred me to a neurologist, saying they are unlikely to be of much help since dyspraxia isn’t acquired, but they may advise referring me to an Autism service, since Autism also includes difficulties with communication. She advised me to self-refer to a physiotherapist, because they deal with physical difficulties and may have some way of helping. My GP was clearly doing her very best, but this feels an unfair lack of service. And, to make matters worse, I accidently shut the door hard enough that it probably sounded like a slam on the way out. I don't expect there is anything that I can do, but it has helped writing here to let off steam, so thank you.

Hi again Jules

Please do feel free to vent here. It is a shame that if we want help we need to consider appropriating other labels and that just doesn't feel right to us. I believe we very much always feel there are others who are far more deserving (and we perhaps tend so be too unselfish for our own good).

If you can find anything that helps you to cope better with the associated anxiety, that is one avenue that is worth pursuing.
