Tomorrow is the day where I finally say "I think I have Dyspraxia" and explain why.
Do you know what will happen? I mean would they refer me? or ask me to fill in a question sheet about the ins and out of my history?
So I am going to the doctors tomorrow......

He/she might know nothing or very little about it, unfortunately Hopefully your doctor won't be completely dismissive of you, but I have read elsewhere on this forum about that happening to people. It's possible that you'll get a sympathetic response, but it all depends on your individual GP's attitude. If your GP does take your concerns seriously, it's not that likely that you'll get referred for a diagnosis on the NHS (unfair as it is, it's more likely that a doctor would refer a child than an adult, despite dyspraxia not being something that someone grows out of). When I was diagnosed, it was by an occupational psychologist, who I was referred to by disability services (part of student services) at my university- even then, they wouldn't pay for the assessment. If you don't get anywhere with your GP and you want to get formally diagnosed, you can find a psychologist on the following site:

Good luck with your GP- even if he/she is the dismissive type, you mustn't feel as if you shouldn't have gone for help. The NHS should take more of an interest in dyspraxia, as it can have such a huge impact on someone's life.

Thank you for the reply, I had no idea what will come out of it. I had a feeling and still do I will get the blank look and would get asked "can you tell me about that in further detail?" and then could say "well everyone does that"
How much did you pay to get assessed? its just being fired last week (fired again!!!) doesn't lead me to have much in the way of financial security.
Thank you for the website, there seems to be lots of people who know about these kind of conditions in my area in which I am glad.
But I know, it seems such a shame, I think they are trained to be aware of the problems that happens with your health like heart problems instead of what can effect you on a daily basis but they can not see or think is not important because it does not damage your health or last long in the future if that made sense.

Hope you get something useful out of your GP. When I was assessed (several years ago) it cost £200- now it probably costs at least £300. I had to rely on help from family members to pay for mine- the NHS really should arrange and pay for such assessments as not everyone has family members who can help them out.

Re: So I am going to the doctors tomorrow......
I did, I guess I am lucky that I had a doctor who knew what Dyspraxia was, so that was a good sign. He said I was "high functioning" since it really only effected me while I was working which was nice to hear though do not get me wrong, I was still getting lost and disorganised at school and college, but there was nothing the NHS could do, and he also said since I was already labelled as dyspraxic at college by someone who was meant to look out for these things in students then its more then likely I do have it, so not a complete waste of time! yay!
wow, it is a lot of money, you are lucky you have supportive family members you could help you
