Newly diagnosed - what help is available?

Post by Lou »

Hi everyone,

My partner has just been officially diagnosed dyspraxic, he's 31. He is going to get CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy) and has been told he can get occupational therapy IF it is available via his GP. Is there any other help that people have received that he can request? He does have some issues with his speech, as in it can be unclear/slurred and he gets his letters mixed up, could he get speech therapy?

Would really appreciate hearing help that others have received.

Thanks,

Lx

Speech Therapy should be avaliable at your local Hospital (probably need a GP referral).
As Adults there's a need for more to be made available , mostly its private .

I had CBT concilling myself (for depression ) and found i thought in that way anyway (it maybe a Dyspraxic trait ). You control and understand your own thoughts and perceptions . Occupational Therapy maybe better dependant on what form and level he has .
The good old . http://www.dyspraxiafoundation.org.uk/ are alwasy worth a call as they should have spcific contacts in your area .

And of course theres us :D
