Allergies

Post by Liz944 » Sun Dec 02, 2007 11:08 am

Does anyone else on the forum have problems with allergies?

If, yes. What sort of thing are you allergic to?

How easy/hard do you find to avoid them?

I don't have any allergies that I am aware, or that I have come across yet.

about the only thing I have been told is never to take is asprin, and even though packaging is clearer, it is still hard to find asprin on labels for pain killers.

as companies still don't recognise it as important, unless you are looking for asprin, then it is very clearly maked, but for ingrediants, then it is something that they tend not to label so much.

and never say this product contains 0% asprin, or 0% nuts, they always get around it by not mentioning it, or a get out clause like this product might contain nuts! like about 80% of products seem to now

I'm asthmatic, so I have all sorts of breathing related allergies. Fortunately no food allergies that I know of. I've never been stung by a bee or a wasp, but I know my mum is allergic, so I'm a bit nervous for when that inevitably happens at some point in my life...

Asthmatic and get hayfever. I'm also allergic to penicillin. There aren't any food allergies, but some foods don't go down too well and set off my IBS.

Is it? I remember when I took in my teens it gave me the worst stomach cramps ever. I felt much worse than the bug I was actually taking it for. Never again.

Yeah my doctor said it is. I was given it when I had an ear infection when i was only about 9, had the worst rash and stomach cramps, gave me a terrible fever and by the time mum had the doctor was called out anaphylaxis was kicking in.

But there are very few people allergic to it anywhere in the country :D

I'm allergic to erythromycin as well.

amoxicillin
cephalosporins
sulfonamides (apparently this was overlooked when I was prescribed Imitrex for migraines..which led to stroke-like symptoms)
codeine
theophylline
imipramine
lanolin
latex
adhesive tape
isopropyl alcohol
nickel
and other things that I'm sure I've forgotten since there seems to be something new all the time.

Flowers and Cats.

Mum's allergic to penicillin. I managed to avoid that one, thank goodness.

Im only allergic to fish,

fin fish, like salmon or talapia, not shell fish, I love lobster and shrimp.

My face swells when I eat fish, or foods cooked in fish oil,

its hard because I only recently became allergic, I love fish, also its hard to decide whether or not to eat crab, most of the time its imatation crab meat. Imatation crab is just some type of fish that tastst like crab.
