Forgot how to boil potatoes

Post by Anurajos » Mon Nov 12, 2018 11:13 am

Last night boiled potatoes but forgot to peel them ! I had no memory of how we usually eat them. Worse though I had offered to cook. It was as if i had no memory!

Nowadays lots of potatoes are supplied so they do not need boiling because they are prewashed and new - it is not unusual for us to cook several varieties with their skins on.

Coincidentally, last week I was peeling some spuds and reminiscing about how now that they do not usually come with a load of mud attached.

I do hope the meal was retrievable and that you are not put off cooking.

Here is a quote from one potao recipe website: -

but we would recommend you leave the skins on. This ensures that the nutrients and flavours are not lost during cooking and you get all those lovely vitamins too.

Unless I'm making mashed potatos I usually give them a quick wash /scrub before steaming or roasting them.

Aye there is that.

I attempted to make aranchi the other week... only I did a typically blokey thing and decided not consult any recipes. Anyway mid way through cooking I decided that the rice was never going to get stodgy enough to form into balls... so I salvaged a risotto out of it instead.

Confused? I'd be.
