How do you stand?

Ok so I have this thing when I am standing in one place and I'll put one foot on top of the other, so essentially I am standing on my own foot. This isn't particularly comfortable and it's not great for posture but it's not painful to do. I'll switch ever 5 mins so that right foot goes over left and then left over right. The thing is at the time I do it I am not really aware that I am standing like this. In a way it is comforting. I've seen people with aspergers do this but I don't have aspergers. Does anybody here stand in an odd way?

I have noticed that I do stand awkwardly. I always put all my weight on my left leg, and my feet always face outwards. I feel very comfortable when I stand like this but now feel like I am unlevelled when i stand straight and less balance.

Yeah that's exactly what i do, all my weight on one leg. Often when I am standing in one place my knee is bent so I'm kind of always having to lean against something. If I'm not doing that then I am shuffling my feet, shifting my weight or swinging my legs in some way. When I was at school also I used to kind of like walk on the outsides of my feet, bending my feet outwards so like the ankles or touching the ground, dunno why.

I'm conscious that I occasionally will stand on one foot with the other on top. I tend to walk fast and at times my ankles seem to roll and/or almost give causing me to stumble. When I was younger had shoe inserts as my feet were apparently a little odd.

If it isn't causing you trouble I'd be inclined not to worry, but don't be afraid to broach the subject with your GP if it is causing you concern.

Sorry to bump this topic after several months but I realised the other day that when I go to walk I put too much weight on one foot and this leads me to lose my balance, it happens about 10 times a day (or more depending on my level of activity), especially when I go to turn.

Is this to do with flat feet? Is it a DCD thing? Does anyone else do this? Is this why you trip so much or bump into things? It happens fairly regularly, people say I'm drunk lol not the case, but it would be a better excuse than "I'm just clumsy/have bad balance". Also has anyone here ever kicked people who are walking in front of them in the heel? I do it too much when out and about but I've no idea why!

Not at all, Really no issues with people revisiting old threads and besides it is yours 8-) If you're concerned the best person to ask is your GP. He or she could refer you to the appropriate specialist.

I tend to walk faster than most and corner awkwardly so doorframe/kerbs/street furniture occasionally get in the way and I come off worst.
I accidentally kicked an oldish woman once. Somebody had just pointed out that I'd left my money in a cashpoint and I wheeled round, accidentally catching her on the ankle/shin. Her husband was really nasty about it even though I was upset at having kicked her by accident. In some ways I wish I'd kicked him.

I was told by a swimming coach that I stand weirdly, although I've never really noticed it myself

My feet face outwards all the time too! I even walk like it, I find it's painful to keep them facing the "correct" way
I can't stand still for prolonged periods of time, and I find it hard to keep my balance even when just standing up not doing anything.

Haha :D me too! I always lose balance and find myself tripping over out of thin air! I found out I have severe flat feet, I think it was caused by Dyspraxia.
