@Xena's Mum
Is there anyone who can ask to help lighten your load? You may also benefit from consulting your GP.

I believe that because we seem to have to expend extra effort focusing on all our daily tasks and responsibilities (and worrying about them) that in itself is tiring. Equally insomnia can also be an issue as it is difficult to switch off and sleep if ones brain is whirring away.

Thanks Tom for the support but when I call my doctors they know my voice as if it isn't me calling about me I have the girls to call about too. The worry/stress aspect is very true though.

I was wondering I am 47 and started going through the menopause at 40 if this could impact in any way?
But it is only the last 2 years that my husband and I have noticed a drastic change.

Anyone else?

I can understand your reluctance to bother your GP again However it's his/her job and they should have a far broader knowledge of all things medical/physiological.

Will leave to other ladies to respond re the menopause and will play my 'I'm a man how would I know!' card 8-)

I'm having issues of sleeping, going on years now. Went to specialist and they prescribed me all kinds of meds after I finally reached out for help, my biggest fear actually cuz they don't work and my short term memory is kinda getting messed; and my specialist only can see me once few month or so it's been and if only for 15 20 min sesh, not enough to get my thoughts out or explain correctly what's going in with me and my body. So I just go with the flow...

The other day I reached the 5 am mark and finally went to bed and woke up at 10 other times I wake up much later and seem to go to bed at 3 or 4 and sleep all day or at least to 2 pm or 3. So I'm all over the place , although there is times i do suceed in a pattern but i cant matain it.same thing it's hard for me to get out of bed; my dog pushes me to wake up :/ I don't like that feeling. During me sleeping I think I grind my teeth.

Anyhow I got a hold of a new gp I'm gonna go see next week. Please lord lol make him kinda understand what dyspraxia is, cuz I'm literally scared going to specialists around this area cuz they don't know, and I'm slowly going to shut down and not reach out anymore.

It's nearly 2.00 am and I am wide awake - yesterday, I got to bed at 4.00 am and it wasn't till early afternoon when I got up.

There are times when I am wide awake when everyone else is asleep and vice versa. I think that as I live on my own, the fact of worrying about every day things - what has gone wrong and needs attending to, and so on, which makes want to stay in bed.

I am unable to work due to personal reasons, and so since I have lived on my own, I go to bed when I am tired rather than at a set time. Having a partner would probably allow me to reform myself and get myself into a regular healthy routine, but I think that it is a long way off for that to happen at the moment.

Hi George

I agree. I think it's all easy to get into this sort of trap and it was about 0250 last night before I went to bed this morning. I tend to find I'm rarely asleep before 0100 and usually try to get up dressed and out before 8 as I'm fortunate to have work. I do find if there is stuff in my head worrying me then my mind is racing and I'm unable to sleep so will often read before I go to sleep.

I do feel it would be worth trying to change your routine and finding some way to put your mind and worries into sleep mode so you can actually get the restful sleep you need at a fitting time.

I must confess I'm a 'terrible malingerer' (my words in jest at myself) and if I don't have work or anywhere I need to be I can easily stay in bed till gone 11 or later, before I get up and out and start doing the things I ought to be doing.

I also feel it's something to try to tackle now as it could be a barrier to and/or be a potential source of friction between you and a future partner but I can see your point about how aligning your day with someone elses could help too.

I know this is an old thread but its like reading a text book for the symptoms of Narcolepsy (type 2) - my son and I have been thinking we have dyspraxia for years - my son was "diagnosed" as dyspraxic on the basis of ADD and muscle weakness (sporadic) (we are in Australia and Dyspraxia isn't a term used very often here and not a lot of understanding of the condition) - other therapists have often said it doesn't feel like "real" dyspraxia but its the best label they could find - so you'll imagine my amazement when a sleep specialist tells me years later that I have narcolepsy - the penny has finally dropped - for everyone on this thread who sleeps often during the day and dreams during those naps do yourself a favour - find a good sleep specialist and talk to them about narcolepsy - it will be a game changer.

Wow! I thought all of this was just me!!

I just woke up from nine hours of sleep and could easily go again. No issues falling asleep anymore but I had lots as a child. These days it’s a family joke - my granddad, my dad, my brother and me all pass out fairly instantly if we stop thinking and sit still for any length of time. I definitely think it’s when we do too much peopling…

I’ve just read the description of narcolepsy and that… looks familiar. But having been to the GP about exhaustion 4/5 times now, and being told my bloods are fine and it’s just ‘being a parent’, I think I’ll just read some more about it and see if there’s anything self help literature about sleep hygiene online. Thanks for the tip!
