It took me 7 attempts to get through the test in the uk in a manual, been driving manual cars, parents now both have autos (Toyota Hybrids) and im not so keen on driving them though I admit maybe my next car will be an auto, currently I drive a Seat Leon 1.2TSi and probably would go for a DSG next time

Manual all of the way, I've never driven an auto out on the road. I imagine I might actually get confused with the lack of a clutch :P

I drive an manual gearshift car and haven't had any problems with it.

Must say that in Belgium for being able to drive on your own with a learners permit you have to take at least 20 hours of lessons (10x2h) with a driving school
I think that helped me a lot because the teachers are used to bad drivers :) and keep calm even when you're losing it.
They also know a lot of tricks and focus on the stuff you're struggling with.

I think driving on my own has a lot of advantages because I get less distracted when there's no one talking to me, blocking my vision or shouting "watch out" :)
I still prefer to drive on my own and if I do have passengers, to not talk to them because it distracts me.
Talking on the phone (bleutooth handsfree) also distracts me so I try to avoid this or keep the coversation short.
I can't multitask so I need a GPS if I go somewhere I don't go on a weekly basis.

I had to go to the USA a lot for work and over there most cars are automatic.
The switch to automatic is easy, just don't use your left foot.
I always put my left foot on the footrest that's usually provided.
Switching back to manual however always causes me more trouble.
I takes me a while to remember to shift:
"why is the engine revving, oh right I have to shift" :)
Time is something that may change me, but I can't change time so f*** it.

I have problems parking as wel, forgot to mention this in my previous post.
Especially parallel parking is really hard for me.
In Belgium you only need to able to park behind another car en not in between two cars for passing the test.

In general I don't like driving backwards because I have no sense how long the backend of my car is. (It's a station wagon)
If I get a new car I would like it to have an rear view camera.

Passed my test the first time.
2 remarks: at one point driving to close to parked cars and speeding up to quickly where the speed limit changed from 30km/h to 50 km/h (you have to wait until you pass the 50km/h sign)
Time is something that may change me, but I can't change time so f*** it.
